When you drive your car, do you drive in the middle of the road? This seems a silly question to ask because you don’t, of course, if you want to stay alive and get somewhere.

But a lot of people have been sold on the idea that the middle of the road is the safest place in politics on all sorts of controversial questions. They have been led to believe that in the middle position you are out of harm’s way and you are more likely to be right than those who are on either side of a question. A little thought will show that this idea is born not of wisdom but of confusion or fear or both.

Richard M. Weaver
“The Middle of the Road: Where It Leads,” 1956

Machiavelli warned that neutrality is more dangerous than taking sides; for if you fail to take a side, both sides will despise you. Playing both ends against the middle is also dangerous, since you prove to be a false friend to all. And being everyone’s friend will not work if each side represents diametrically opposing principles. The right camp is never found in splitting the difference between two opposing camps. Conservative philosopher Richard M. Weaver pointed out in 1956, “middle-of-the-roadism is not a political philosophy at all. It is rather the absence of a philosophy or an attempt to evade having a philosophy.”

In the great and perpetual struggle that is history, to strive mightily without principles is to strive in vain. Even if you manage to win, nothing is affirmed. Nothing is advanced. As time stretches out before us, something will be affirmed. Something will be advanced. Somebody’s philosophic principles are going to prevail. Will those principles be good or evil? Will they sustain civilization or destroy it?

If your principles are good, would you be willing to compromise them for expediency’s sake? Weaver asked his readers, “Try imagining the figure that Washington would cut in history today if he had decided on a compromise settlement with the British.” Weaver saw the emerging Republican establishment of the post-McCarthy period, under President Dwight Eisenhower, as representing the opposite of Washington’s example: “The prophets of the New Republicanism … insist that the Republican Party keep moving to the left behind (but not too far behind) the Democratic Party.”

Has anything changed in the last 64 years?

Where did the Republican Party under Eisenhower and Nixon think it was going? Where does the Republican Party, before and after Trump, think it is going? Weaver noted: “They do not bother to ask whether the leftward drift is not toward something essentially bad….” Weaver called this “a curious piece of political servility and blindness.” He characterized the emerging Republican establishment of the post-McCarthy period as “a typical product of the ‘operational thinker,’ who does not really ‘think.’ Instead, he ‘senses,’” like “an insect with its antennae,” detecting “the drift of things.” The question, noted Weaver, is whether the operational thinker “can ever be anything more than an insect….”

Thomas Carlyle, who spent his literary career describing heroes and great men, said that a great man is someone who sees the truth others are afraid to see. A hero takes a stand when others will not. Carlyle suggested the mediocre man – the “insect” – cannot see truth or stand by it. Instead of taking a stand, the mediocre man attempts a compromise. He falsifies reality. He temporizes. He forges an imaginary middle path between irreconcilable opposites. He imagines this is a safe bet. Of course, it is not safe. As Weaver explained, “a position half way between right and wrong is not a sound position. It only postpones and makes more difficult the eventual decision.”

This is where we are today. Our Constitutional system has been compromised. Our elections have been compromised. Our courts have been compromised. We are told to close our eyes and pretend everything is fine. That is what many of our authorities are doing. They pretend there is no fraud, which is yet another kind of fraud.

In principle, there should be no compromises when it comes to corruption. There should be no compromises when it comes to truth. And yet, that is all we are given to expect. Men imagine they will gain by this; but in the end everyone will lose. History offers us a choice of either/or. It does not offer us either and or.

“The great causes which have triumphed and the leaders which have led them have never been found in the middle of the road,” noted Weaver, who described the Whig Party of the early-to-mid-nineteenth century and its leader, Henry Clay, as making “the fatal mistake of trying to straddle the fence on major issues that were in conflict.” As a result, Clay did not go to the White House. It was the “hard-hitting” Andrew Jackson who became President. We can see, from this, that history has recently repeated itself. The middle-of-the-road Jeb Bush did not go to the White House, but the hard-hitting Donald J. Trump is sitting in the White House as these words are written.

Another historical example, Weaver noted, is the British Liberal Party. This party neutered itself by taking a middle position between the Conservative Party and the Labor Party. By doing this the Liberal Party destroyed its position in British politics. “All great political parties owe their vitality to the importance of the principles they stand for,” wrote Weaver. The middle-of-the-road, therefore, is not the path of political success because it is not a path of principle. According to Weaver, “A beaten party with a real issue has an excellent chance of coming back. A beaten party without an issue is a dead duck.” He added, “Dodging issues and watering down solutions is not merely the way to failure; it is the way to extinction.”

Why should the consequences of dodging issues and watering down solutions be so dire? “There is one group,” wrote Weaver, “not clearly distinguished by a party name, but quite definite about what it wants and expects to bring about in this nation.” This is a group that works “on various fronts and under various labels, but there is no need to be confused about its objectives. It wants an America, new-modeled according to the Soviet Union.” This group operates by two main ideas: (1) atheistic materialism; and (2) a state supremacy that “crushes the individual.” To compromise with this group is, indeed, “the way to extinction.”

“You would think that in this great country of ours,” wrote Weaver, “with its heritage and its achievements, there would be a tremendous outcry and opposition to anything so one-sided [as collectivism] in its interpretation of … man’s nature and so chilling to human instincts.” But many of our leaders, said Weaver, “have adopted the policy of appeasement. Instead of issuing a direct challenge in terms of principle, they have tried to see how many concessions they could make without being accused of surrender.” He added, “They have tried to see how closely they could approach the position of collectivism while still paying lip service to what they are supposed to be defending.”

Weaver argued, there is no viable middle position “between militant collectivism and our tradition of freedom and individualism.” He continued, “Historical examples show that the next step is capitulation, or liquidation of the party which is so cowardly.” If the collectivists win, wrote Weaver, “it will certainly be recorded by history that no people ever gave up so much for so little.”

This is how Weaver saw the situation in 1956. And here we are, 64 years later, without free and fair elections, without investigations into treason and subversion, without any redress of many serious grievances, without protection from corruption and fraud, without a legal way to fight back. “There is little doubt that the middle of the road leads in this direction,” wrote Weaver. “The radicals know what they want; too many of the rest of us only temporize and hope.”

What is needed? “The need of the time is for a leadership willing to face facts,” said Weaver. We do not need leaders or political parties predicated on “self-defeat through compromise.” Many of us want to know when things are going to change. Who is willing to act? Who will take on the collectivists and call them to account?

The hour is late. Our fair goal is justice. The problem, wrote Weaver in Ideas Have Consequences, is that modern man “is a moral idiot.” Toward the end of the book Weaver added, “modern man is a parricide” who has “taken up arms against … what former men have regarded with filial veneration.” Think of how love of country is now vilified as white nationalism. Even the existence of America’s border is “racist.” Family and tradition have been traduced as gender bigotry. This “idiocy” rules over us. It corrupts us as it swindles us.

The time to organize opposition to this “idiocy” is now. We must stand up for the country. We must stand up for posterity. This may be our last chance to choose the right side.

  1. Indeed! For decades patriots have had two choices — apathy or vote for do-nothing Republicans. The Communists have been in control of the other party for my entire voting life. It is a thoroughly discouraging and disheartening situation. Thankfully for those of us with faith in the Almighty we have a final appeal to the highest authority and most hope and pray for His mercy in our predicament.

  2. We are at a true turning point, the biggest one most of us have ever known. Pray that the will to survive and be free will save us all again. If the maniacs prevail the whole world is doomed.

  3. Dimitri Duduman:

I said, “What will you do with the church?” He said, “I want to save the church, but the churches have forsaken me.” I said, “How did they forsake you?” He said, “The people praise
themselves. The honor that the people are supposed to give Jesus Christ, they take upon themselves. In the churches there are divorces. There is adultery in the churches. There are homosexuals in the churches. There is abortion in the churches and all other sins that are possible.
Because of all the sin, I have left some of the churches. You must yell in a loud voice that they must put an end to their sinning. They must turn toward the Lord. The Lord never gets tired of forgiving. They must draw close to the Lord, and live a clean life. If they have sinned until now, they must put an end to it, and start a new life as the Bible tells them to live.”
I said, “How will America burn?” America is the most powerful country in this world. Why did you bring us here to burn? Why didn’t you at least let us die where ALL the Dudumans have died?”
He said, “Remember this, Dumitru. The Russian spies have discovered where the nuclear warehouses are in America. When the Americans will think that it is peace and safety – from the middle of the country, some of the people will start fighting against the government. The government will be busy with internal problems. Then from the ocean, from Cuba, Nicaragua, Mexico,,..” (He told me two other countries, but I didn’t remember what they were.) “…they will bomb the nuclear warehouses. When they explode, America will burn!”
“What will you do with the Church of the Lord? How will you save the ones that will turn toward you?” I asked. He said, “Tell them this: how I saved the three young ones from the furnace of fire, and how I saved Daniel in the lions den, is the same way I will save them.”

Nuclear weapons agency breached amid massive cyber onslaught
    Natasha Bertrand, Eric Wolff

The Energy Department and National Nuclear Security Administration have evidence that hackers accessed their networks as part of an extensive espionage operation that has affected at least half a dozen federal agencies. The Energy Department and National Nuclear Security Administration, which maintains the U.S. nuclear weapons stockpile, have evidence that hackers accessed their networks as part of an extensive espionage operation that has affected at least half a dozen federal agencies, officials directly familiar with the matter said.
On Thursday, DOE and NNSA officials began coordinating notifications about the breach to their congressional oversight bodies after being briefed by Rocky Campione, the chief information officer at DOE.

They found suspicious activity in networks belonging to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), Sandia and Los Alamos national laboratories in New Mexico and Washington, the Office of Secure Transportation at NNSA, and the Richland Field Office of the DOE.

The hackers have been able to do more damage at FERC than the other agencies, and officials there have evidence of highly malicious activity, the officials said, but did not elaborate.

    1. “officials there have evidence of highly malicious activity”

Is our grid at risk? Banks? What will they do with this information?

    2. Well… so now that Trump is downplaying the Russians role in the hack and the MSM is calling him fake news, who can say that one of those CCP workers in the database dump a few days ago isn’t working for SolarWinds and is the one that placed the password for their update server onto a public GitHub page (announced by FireEye and covered on the “Krebs on Security” site). Nothing like giving the keys to the US Government, Microsoft and many fortune 500 companies to anyone that has the time to look. Also, the NSA can hack any country and make it look like the Russians did it, so what’s the big fuss by the MSM. This whole thing stinks to high heaven.

  4. My head is spinning from all the news coming out tonight. I can’t imagine Lin Wood saying what he did without proof. According to him, Justice John Roberts told Justice Stephen Breyer in a conversation about Trump, that “he would make sure the mother f***** would never be re-elected.”

      1. Apparently he has recordings of it and has given a copy to multiple people. I wonder where/how he got the recordings?

      1. Hopefully we’ll be able to hear the recording ourselves soon, then we’ll know it’s true.

    1. They stood down during riots all over the country. People like Roberts were not too worried last summer so why would they worry now. Apparently a majority of the justices are not worried about freedom and elections. They have their own agenda.

Not sure if you can comment, CNN released a article on Hong Kong and I have concerns about their reporting into the Hong Kong Provocation. They are not reporting the fact that Xi Jinping himself ordered the early takeover of Hong Kong and that the National Security Law that was implemented was actually part of the process of making Hong Kong part of the Mainland

    1. They took care of business back in 1989 in Romania. People today are cowards.
Grown men wear masks and abuse their children with Muzzles.
China is mocking us and we are so stupid to follow into our own destruction.
In Romania the Costco guy with mega speaker would be a hero!

  6. YOU KNOW THINGS HAS JUST SUPER SCREWED UP WHEN EUROPEAN JEWS AND EUROPEAN MUSLIMS HAVE UNITED IN HOWLING ANGER AT AN ANTI-RELIGIOUS RULING:

The European Court bans ritual slaughter of livestock
    Dec 17, 2020 @ 16:02

Jewish and Muslim groups slammed a European Court ruling requiring animals to be stunned before slaughter for food as an assault on their religious freedoms and traditions. An umbrella organization of Jewish groups in Belgium denigrated the ruling for giving priority to “animal rights” over “democracy” and respect for the rights of minority groups.

  7. Can someone explain this to me: if they’re having trouble getting someone in the Senate to merely second the motion that Congress consider the alternate electors, how can they hope to get enough Senators voting in favor of ACCEPTING the alternate electors? I’m having trouble understanding how all this works.

      1. Josey, yesterday Newsmax.com had an interview posted with Senator Rick Scott, saying he was “considering” seconding the motion. It and other articles on Newsmax indicated they were hunting for a senator to second the motion. Scott was not willing to commit.

    1. Hopefully enough corruption will have been exposed by January 6th that a majority will accept them. It will take a miracle, but I do believe in miracles. 🙂

      1. Luke, there are quite a few things to do, according to tweets from Sidney Powell, General Flynn, and others in that group:

        1) Write, tweet, or phone President Trump and ask him to “appoint a Special Counsel now and order the impoundment of all Dominion voting machines.” You can also tell him you will support his invoking the Insurrection Act to institute whatever degree of martial law is necessary. General Flynn, in an interview on Newsmax.com today, said martial law sounds scary to us, but it’s actually been invoked throughout history 64 times. You can write to Trump by googling “Contact the President” and leaving a message on the page that leads you to.

        2) Write, tweet, or phone your state legislators and tell them to demand a forensic audit. Contact the Georgia turkeys and demand a fair runoff election, without voting machines, with signature verifications, and with poll watchers allowed (and up close) while every ballot is opened. Demand a forensic audit of the Nov. 3rd election in Georgia. You can locate contact info for your state legislators by googling “Contact [and their name].

        3) Get familiar with how Twitter works, start “following” people on there like Sidney and Flynn, and use it to re-tweet important information and ideas you read there to others. Twitter has a section that explains how to use it: https://help.twitter.com/en/using-twitter#tweets. You can also make tweets of your own and address them to other members (such as Donald Trump, for instance), and attach videos, and other people’s tweets, etc. We know Trump reads Twitter. He needs to know what his people think.

        4) It’s important to keep up your own fighting spirit. Watch the movie “Brian Banks,” a true story that hits home with this powerful message: if you make up your mind to find a way, even in the midst of impossibility and defeat, you will find a hole somewhere in the impossibility grid that lets you slip through, and you will achieve your goal. Brian Banks was unjustly imprisoned for six years and denied any legal recourse. He read the book “As a Man Thinketh,” and it changed his life. He refused to give up. His perseverance opened doors where none existed. It’s an immensely inspiring story that gave me a lot of hope and ideas for this predicament we’re in. There’s great power in refusing to give up, in constantly focusing on the results you’re determined to have. Brian Banks story shows what happens when you do this, how events change and unfold in your favor when you DEMAND justice.

        5) Remember that it has always been a minority that has brought about change. In the American Revolution, 1/3 of the colonists wanted to stay subjects of England, 1/3 wanted to declare independence, and another third wouldn’t commit either way. We have well over 1/3 of Americans who are awake and aware and angry. There is power in this. Ask God for direction on what we should do with this anger and awareness. Our friends who voted for Biden can’t hear us. They think we’re crazy racists and Nazis. So much for the second one-third. We must ask God to show us what to do, and listen for his guidance as it comes. And we must be willing to fight — right now that means in the sorts of ways I’ve been describing.

  8. Jeff, it reminds me of two well tried scriptures: 1 Kings 18:21 And Eli’jah came near to all the people, and said, “How long will you go limping with two different opinions? If the LORD is God, follow him; but if Ba’al, then follow him.” And then there is the definitive word of Jesus: In Revelations 3: `I know your works: you are neither cold nor hot. Would that you were cold or hot! So, because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spew you out of my mouth.” The indictment is declared and the remedy follows: “be zealous and repent.” Its time for a men and women of boldness to stand up and let the chips fall where they may.

  9. [What is needed? “The need of the time is for a leadership willing to face facts,”]

What is needed is a return to sanity.
A return to traditional morals, values, and ethics.
Expose the Communists for what they are, and ban them from running for political office, as they have no desire to contribute to our system, they only want to destroy it.
Ban Communists from the fields of education, finance, history/social studies/political science, entertainment, and working in any Federal/State/County or local governments in any capacity.
Let them live as Marx lived, let them live as true Communists.
Once they see that the life of a Communists is h3llish, they may change their minds a bit.

    1. What you say is true if only you had the time and space to implement it. Looking at the board from where I am sitting it looks to me like your enemy has been playing the long game while the conservative Americans have been making ad hoc, short sighted moves whilst being lulled to sleep. Now the enemy has it’s pieces in place and – it looks to me – like they are prepared to deliver a killing blow to what once was the UNITED States of America. What were you thinking when the very same people who are now preparing to slaughter you handed countries like South Africa and Rhodesia to the Communists? Looking at what is happening to the USA I should be experiencing a feeling of schaden freude but all I feel is sad.

  10. Jeff, besides the ongoing “coup” it seems we have now been the recipients of not one, but two strikes.
There was the First Strike, the “Kung Flu.”
There was the Second Strike, the “Digital Pearl Harbor.”
Any predictions on a Third Strike? Financial, kinetic, political command & control, infrastructure, 3rd world, low earth orbit, more grey terror, outright red terror, overseas bases, naval, civilian, Straight of Hormuz, Middle East, Balkans, Baltics, Black Sea, or what?
You, possibly, probably, better than any one else in the West know what to expect.
Not getting much anywhere else, but not trying to put you on the spot, but you are the pro here.

      1. At least ordinary people will finally recognize such an event as a financial strike as interference from Communist China!! A person dear to me cannot agree with me on the current situation in Hong Kong, even as we read the same reports from the same western media sources. He does not understand that Hong Kong is not a free city, even though our experiences in that great city – mine in 1997 and his thereafter – differ so enormously. One moments thought leaves me with the realization that we will continue to disagree, (to a frightening extent) if the coming economic devastation can somehow be blamed on Donald Trump…

      2. Luckin Coffee in China (the Starbucks of China) trades on NYSE and went from around $3 to $9 in about 3 days. The financial strike is going to stir up the unrest.

      3. There have been reports here in Oklahoma of people being followed home from the store and their groceries stolen before they could get them inside. If we have a financial strike, I can’t even imagine how ugly things might get.

      4. I’m guessing they’re hungry enough that they’re not too picky. Situational awareness is obviously going to be more and more important in the coming days.

      5. The virus has caused unsustainably high spending, stretching the system to the breaking point; they can repeat their naked short-selling attacks on investments, or cyber attacks, plus defaults in key sectors; if they collapse derivatives they might be able to bring the whole thing down. Or sink a carrier and demand our unprotected allies abandon the dollar. And they will.

  11. China blames US for the virus and we blame them. Might Russia have leaked the virus from the joint US/China, biowarfare lab in Wuhan, to play both ends against the middle? When Goldman-Sachs crashed the price of oil and stashed the loot offshore in their private bank, OPEC was finished. Could it be that Russia, then leveled the economic playing field?

SARS-2, has just mutated into 17 new strains. That would indicate that it must have been an F1, now becoming an F2 generation, where there is the most diversity from breeding two stable strains. The successful parasite does not kill the host. Ebola is so, virulent that it kills everyone before it can spread beyond the immediate vicinity. Most likely, the breeders already know what the F2 phenotypes will be like, and what they can do. Antifashion masks still won’t block a virus,

  12. Jeff, just wanting to ask, will you be on John Moore’s radio show next Wednesday, will John Moore have a break during the christmas period?

      1. Jeff, can you give us links to the radio shows you are on? I didn’t even know they were happening. I understand now you do three shows a week? Where and when? Please tell us.

      2. The FBI supposedly going after Proud Boy leader for burning a BLM flag while burning the American flag is protected speech. The Proud Boy leader said BLM is a Marxist movement with racist overtones. Burning its flag is not racist but anti communist.

  13. Jeff, not sure if you can comment and have seen this tweet. Senator Ted Cruz has stopped a Bill called the Hong Kong People’s Freedom and choice act which is written by Democrat Senator Dick Durbin of Illinois which would allow Hong Kong People to immigrate to the US. Ted Cruz stopped the bill by mentioning he had concerns that the refugees would be Ministry of State Security Agents and People’s Liberation Army Agents.

    https://twitter.com/aaronMCN/status/1340015238012411905

      1. I was also looking at the replies from the Hong Kong Democracy Movement supporters. Their replies shows they thought a lot of countries around the world will just accept them as refugees after the planned provocation in Hong Kong, I think they are in for a dose of reality that it is not the case

      2. Jeff, not sure if you can comment, this is the bill that Ted Cruz blocked, it is called H.R.8428 – Hong Kong People’s Freedom and Choice Act of 2020, it has 17 Democrat cosponsors and 6 Republican cosponsors:

        https://www.congress.gov/bill/116th-congress/house-bill/8428/text

        The Summary of the bill:

Hong Kong People’s Freedom and Choice Act of 2020

This bill provides for temporary protected status (TPS) and refugee status for qualifying Hong Kong residents and contains other immigration-related provisions.

Hong Kong shall be treated as a TPS-designated country for 18 months starting from this bill’s enactment. (Qualifying nationals of a TPS-designated country may not be removed from the United States and shall have employment authorization while the designation is in effect.)

Furthermore, Hong Kong shall be treated as separate from China for the purposes of various numerical limitations on immigrant visas. (Hong Kong is part of China but has a largely separate legal and economic system.)

The bill also establishes Priority Hong Kong Resident status for qualified individuals. To obtain such status, an individual must meet certain requirements, such as having resided in Hong Kong for at least ten years as of the day of this bill’s enactment and not having citizenship in any jurisdiction other than China, Hong Kong, or Macau.

For the purposes of seeking refugee status or asylum, a Priority Hong Kong Resident (and certain family members of such an individual) may establish that the individual has a well-founded fear of persecution if the individual asserts such fear and (1) had a significant role in an organization that supported the 2019 or 2020 protests related to China’s encroachment into Hong Kong’s autonomy or the Hong Kong National Security Law enacted in 2020; or (2) was arrested, charged, detained, or convicted for participating in the nonviolent exercise of certain rights.

  14. Miller stated the alternate electors will be counted on Fox (former SOF; President of the Senate Pence Trump card). JFK’s NSAM 57 has been invoked — Pentagon yanked counter terrorism funding from CIA; Special Forces made an official military branch answerable directly and exclusively to the Executive as part of DOD reorientation to counter “transnational threats”; Deputy AG is a former Military judge (firing squads and hangings recently put back on the table/books); Linn Wood – a defamation specialist – accused Justice Roberts of outright sedition (Powell herself has a military pedigree and featured mil. cyber security experts in the fraud cases); Pompeo & Mnuchin reaffirm they are coordinating on the implementation of the 2018 EO countering election fraud (freezing/seizing assets)

Creamsickle Caesar crossed the Delaware a long time ago, and the Hessians ought to expect a rude awakening around Barr’s last day on the job and the “one year only” Federal Holiday on the 24th. As the illimitable and eminently memeable Ron Paul once put so eloquently, “ IT’S HAPPENING!”

    1. It seems like something is happening. But what will it bring? The country must stop the Chinese takeover, the communist subversion, the persecution of patriots and financing of traitors. Either the enemies of liberty will put us to the wall or there will be treason trials in this country. Something is going to happen.

  15. “If you are not prepared to fight with everything going for you there comes a time when you will be forced to fight with the odds stacked against you because it is better to fight and to die than to live as a slave” I think it was Winston Churchill that said that – but who ever said it was right…

      1. As George Washington said, “I’d rather die standing up than live on my knees.”

      1. As far as they know, it isn’t any more lethal. But the huge increase in numbers leads to more hospitalizations, which eventually leads to more deaths overall. The hospitals are already overwhelmed here in the US. If/when that variant makes it across the pond, it will probably be pretty ugly.

      2. In the US, yes. The 7-day rolling average is around 2,600. But globally it’s 11,000 plus per day. A version that spreads 70% faster is very concerning.

      3. It is curious that the USA is proportionally over represented. We are what? — only 6 percent of the world’s population — but we represent roughly 25 percent of those dying. How can that be explained?

      4. From what I’ve read, we claim just about every death was from Covid regardless of how the person died. One of the most outrageous was the man who died in a motorcycle accident, but because he tested positive for Covid, that was listed as his cause of death.

BORIS Johnson has “sacrificed” Christmas for 18 million people – with London and the South East to be plunged into a new Tier 4 lockdown from MIDNIGHT tonight.

Travel and different households mixing will be banned under the new highest level tier – with families elsewhere only allowed to form ‘Christmas bubbles’ on December 25 itself, the PM told the nation today.

The drastic move will dash families’ hopes of Christmas together after a torrid year and force millions of people to stay home for weeks to come.

Mr Johnson told around 18 million Brits in Tier 4 the tough crackdown will help save lives with a new mutant strain of the virus sweeping through the south of England.

He said: “Yes, Christmas this year will be very different, but we must be realistic.

“We are sacrificing our chance to see loved ones this Christmas, so we have a better chance of protecting their lives so we can see them at future Christmases. ”

In Scotland, Nicola Sturgeon introduced a travel ban to other parts of the UK and announced a brutal three week lockdown from Boxing Day.

The First Minister said 17 cases of the new mutant strain of Covid has been identified north of the border.

Wales will go into lockdown as well from midnight tonight while Northern Ireland will enter a six-week shutdown on December 26.

In England, the PM warned the nation he could not ignore the terrifying new strain and vowed: “We have to act to protect the public.”

Mr Johnson said: “As Prime Minister, it is my duty to take the difficult decisions, to do what is right to protect the people of this country.

“Given the early evidence we have on this new variant of the virus, and the potential risk it poses, it is with a heavy heart that I must tell you we cannot continue with Christmas as planned.

“I sincerely believe there is no alternative open to me.”

He said people would be “disappointed” but vowed he was following the science as a result of the new rapidly-spreading strain.

The PM said he “bitterly regretted” cancelling holidays for millions of people. The new restrictions would be reviewed again on December 30.

People throughout England are advised to “stay local” and avoid overseas travel, while those in Tier 4 will only be able to go abroad for essential business.

There were 27,000 positive Covid-19 cases recorded today, the latest stats showed.

The PM had insisted just five days ago that Christmas will still go ahead for families – and it would be “inhuman” to cancel it.

MPs will be fuming as the new lockdown will be done via emergency laws – and immediately they demanded a new vote on the tougher measures.

But the Commons started its Christmas break on Thursday evening – and politicians won’t go back until January unless there’s a Brexit deal to vote on when they will be recalled.

Mr Johnson said today “there will be a chance for parliament to consider them” but it won’t be for weeks to come.

Mark Harper MP, Chairman of the Covid Recovery Group, said this evening: “This is a very sad day. Lockdowns and increasingly severe tiered restrictions have failed in their goal of slowing the transmission of Covid.

“And now the Government is expecting people to sacrifice the chance to share Christmas with family, friends and loved ones, just a few days after promising the opposite.

    LET US VOTE
“If the Government wants the support of the public and Parliament, it must publish a clear exit strategy from this nightmarish, cycle of damaging lockdowns and restrictions.

“More immediately, given the 3 tier system and the initial Christmas household rules were expressly authorised by the House of Commons, these changes must also be put to a vote in the Commons at the earliest opportunity, even if that means a recall of the House.”

US President Donald Trump slammed the UK shutdown, tweeting: “We don’t want to have lockdowns. The cure cannot be worse than the problem itself!”

The draconian move comes in response to a new mutant strain of the coronavirus, which was identified in the South East back in September, which is now spreading throughout Britain.

Sir Patrick Vallance said the new strain has become “the dominant variant” of Covid because it spreads up to 70 per cent faster – a fact which has spooked health bosses.

But the new breed of the disease is not believed to be more deadly or cause any worse illness and should still be affected by the vaccine, the experts have said.

Sir Patrick said: This new variant not only moves fast but it is becoming the dominant variant.

“It is beating all the others in terms of transmission.”

He said the “working assumption ” of scientists was that the vaccines that had been developed should be able to deal with it.

The Government’s Scientific Advisory Group (Sage) warned that without action the new strain could add 0.4 to the R number – representing the reproduction rate – which was already estimated at 1.1. to 1.2.

And Professor Chris Whitty begged people not to flee the capital tonight, saying: “If you have packed a bag, unpack it.”

But he stressed a message of hope for the future as it was revealed that 350,000 people across the UK have been vaccinated now.

Deaths are lower than at the height of the first wave, with better treatments and more knowledge of the virus, he said.

The Prime Minister added: “There is now hope – real hope – that we will soon be rid of this virus. That prospect is growing with every day that passes and every vaccine dose administered.

“As sure as night follows day, we will beat back this virus. We will defeat it. And we will reclaim our lives.”

What is the new Covid strain?
It has been named VUI – 202012/01 – the first variant under investigation in December. It was first identified in September, according to scientists at COVID-19 Genomics UK Consortium (COG-UK), who have been working with Public Health England (PHE).Government scientists at PHE’s Porton Down lab are analysing the strain “right now”, Mr Hancock said. The new strain is 70 per cent more contagious, Professor Whitty said today. And it’s fast becoming the dominant strain across the UK, he added. They think the strain may have started in the UK but scientists aren’t sure.In the south east 43 per cent of the virus is this new variant, in east England 57 per cent, and London 62 per cent. How dangerous is it?Despite warnings that the new strain is fuelling the spread of coronavirus, experts have said there is no evidence it’s more dangerous.Alan McNally, Professor in Microbial Evolutionary Genomics at the University of Birmingham, told the BBC: “Let’s not be hysterical. It doesn’t mean it’s more transmissible or more infectious or dangerous.
“It is something to keep an eye on.”He added: “It is important to keep a calm and rational perspective on the strain as this is normal virus evolution and we expect new variants to come and go and emerge over time”.Boris said today it will still likely be affected by the vaccine, and there is no evidence people will be more sick or likely to die.
He said that while there was no evidence the new strain is more lethal, urgent work was underway to investigate it.

Prof Whitty said today the new variant – known as VUI 2020/01 – had been around since early September.

He said: “If you have a high rate of this variant then it is not held by the tiers.

“Our big worry is that it’s going up in terms of percentage of where it is.

“We are really keen that people do not go from these areas.. this is a bad moment.”

The new strain is blamed for a sudden surge in hospitalisations and The Sun understands evidence shows a dramatic hike in positive cases in London in the past week.

By November, it was accounting for 28 per cent of new infections in the region and by early December that had risen to 60 per cent.

And there are fears people are catching the virus despite wearing PPE and socially distancing.

A health source said: “The last 48 hours have changed everything.”

It could be weeks until it is known just how dangerous the new breed of Covid-19 could be.

Meanwhile, stats released yesterday show those living with Covid in England have risen by almost a fifth in a week.

The ONS said 567,300 people had the bug between December 6 and 12 — equal to one person in 95. The latest reproduction R number is now between 1.1 and 1.2.

But the public do appear to be listening to the Government — as official figures show only half of Brits are planning to form a festive bubble.

That includes 26 per cent saying they plan to visit family and friends but not stay overnight compared with 52 per cent last year.

    DRACONIAN TIER 4
Only four per cent plan to meet in restaurants, cafes or bars compared with 44 per cent last year.

The PM is still coming under fire from Tories and hospitality chiefs, who want measures lifted as soon as possible, plus gloomy scientists who predict more lockdowns.

Tim Spector, professor of genetic epidemiology at King’s College London, said people should consider postponing Christmas socialising until Easter.

And Prof Neil Ferguson, whose modelling led to March’s first lockdown, suggested a more severe third national lockdown may be needed.

Prof John Edmunds, of the Sage science advisory body, warned: “Unfortunately it doesn’t look like the tier system is holding back the epidemic wave. We are going to have to look at these measures and perhaps tighten them.”

Documents newly released by Sage say avoiding social contacts for more than five days before meeting older or vulnerable people at Christmas will reduce the risk of transmitting the virus.

A longer period of a week or more would reduce the risk even further. A document dated November 26 says taking a rapid Covid test before a multi-day gathering inside a home could also reduce risk.

    The Sun Says
MILLIONS of Brits will be rightly furious that their Christmas has been cancelled.
Just days ago, Boris Johnson vowed to maintain the Christmas bubbles over the festive season because it would be “inhuman” to axe them. But by plunging London and much of the south east into a tough new tier 4, he has crushed hopes of festive reunions and wrecked costly plans made by hard-up families. The Prime Minister has also split the country on Christmas Day. In some areas mixed groups will celebrate while yards away others will be barred from seeing loved ones. This is the harshest and most heartbreaking decision Boris has made during a horrible year and it comes as a cruel blow to everyone hoping for a little merriment to lift the gloom. He and his scientists are terrified by the new strain of the virus in the east of the country.Of course Boris must act to save lives, and other parts of Europe are taking similar steps. But he cannot repeat the mistake he made in imposing the rushed second lockdown of seven weeks ago. That followed forecasts of 4,000 deaths a day — figures which proved unreliable and were soon retracted.Boris himself later felt he had been bounced into taking over-zealous measures that wrecked the economy. It will be far worse if the new warnings prove wrong. If this new strain has broken out in other countries, why can’t we have more details about how they coped?Questions also need to be asked about the lack of hospital staff to cope with rising numbers of cases. Vacancies for nursing posts are at 36,655 and those for medical jobs are at 7,502.As a result the £220million emergency Nightingale hospitals could be left idle — an appalling waste. In the meantime hundreds more businesses will collapse and thousands will lose their jobs.We understand why Boris feels he must take drastic steps to prevent another surge of Covid casualties. But he cannot afford the scientific statistics to be wrong again. The nation will never forgive a Prime Minister who cancelled Christmas on the basis of dodgy science.

  18. DEADLY SPREAD New Covid strain is 70 per cent more contagious as experts fear South East outbreak is racing out of control

THE new Covid-19 variant that has ripped through the South East is 70 per cent more contagious than the original strain, Boris Johnson revealed today.

The PM today revealed the “frighteningly transmissable” new variant was spreading rapidly – forcing him to put millions of Brits in Tier 4 lockdown for Christmas.

Boris today said that the new strain meant that the R rate could be increased by 0.4 as he revealed the festive season was cancelled.

Speaking at a press conference today, the PM said the strain was “spreading very fast”.

He said: “There’s still much we don’t know but it is spreading more quickly.

“There is no evidence however to suggest that it’s more lethal or causes more severe illness.

“Equally, there is no evidence to suggest the vaccine will be any less effective.”

Professor Chris Whitty, chief medical officer for England, today said the UK has informed the World Health Organisation that the new variant coronavirus can spread more rapidly.

He said: “There is no current evidence to suggest the new strain causes a higher mortality rate or that it affects vaccines and treatments, although urgent work is under way to confirm this.

“Given this latest development, it is now more vital than ever that the public continue to take action in their area to reduce transmission.”

A Health source said: “The last 48 hours have changed everything.”

It is also feared to have first emerged in London and the South East as early as September, Chief Scientific Officer Sir Patrick Vallance said at today’s Downing Street briefing.

The strain – called VUI202012/01 – has caused cases to double in a week in the capital as it buckles under the new variant.

The weekly average case rate is also up 66 per cent in two weeks for the rest of the country as the mutant strain tears through Covid hotspots.

Data from the ONS shows that the new variant accounted for 62 per cent of all cases in London on the week commencing December 9, double the 28 per cent reported on the week commencing November 18.

Professor Sir Mark Walport – a member of the Government’s Scientific Advisory Group on Emergencies (Sage) – said there was a real possibility that the new variant could have a “transmission advantage”.

He told BBC2’s Newsnight: “What happens with viruses is they do naturally mutate all the time and the ones that are likely to do well are the ones that increase transmission.”

“We know that this is a new variant, it has been seen in other countries but it seems to be quite widespread which suggests that it has got a transmission advantage.

“Scientists are working extremely hard to work out what is going on. But it does definitely seem possible that this transmits more easily.

“It will make the social-distancing even more critical.”

The Sun understands new evidence shows a dramatic hike in positive cases in London over the last week.

The new strain is being blamed for a sudden uptick in hospitalisations in the Capital.

And there are fears that people are catching it despite wearing PPE and socially distancing, pointing again to a surge in the virus’s ability to spread.

Large swathes of the South East were put in Tier 3 this week after the Government’s review.

Scientists have found this new strain of Covid-19 spreads faster than the original strain of the virus.

The new variant that has been found predominantly in Kent and neighbouring areas – but has spread as far as Scotland.

The Prime Minister could announce new travel restrictions on London and Kent on Saturday after a chilling warning from medics that is poised to ruin Christmas for millions.

Such action would risk ruining Christmas for millions plunged into deeper lockdown rather than allowed to meet up under the festive bubbles plan.

While it is too late to change the law, Mr Johnson was on Friday night consulting with Cabinet colleagues over whether to change festive advice for begging people not to leave the Capital next week.

And the commuter belt of the South East has been blighted by soaring virus numbers meaning Christmas is on the cusp of being cancelled across the Home Counties.

It come as Boris Johnson today refused to rule out a third national lockdown after Christmas – and warned that the Covid infection rate was growing.

The PM said he “hoped” that England would not have to shut down once again – after Northern Ireland joined Wales in saying it would shut down from Boxing Day onwards.

Britain’s R rate has risen this week as cases of the coronavirus continue to increase across the country.

The current R value – the number of people an infected person will pass Covid on to – is now estimated to be between 1.1 and 1.2.

  19. Bill Gertz: “It’s not just a political party. It’s an ideological drive, as I say in my book, to basically take over the world. The Chinese are doing that systematically. Again, we’re having a vigorous debate on the nature of the Chinese communist system. I think people have tried to minimize it, play it down. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has been the most significant in making the point that the Chinese Communist Party has tried to co-opt the entire Chinese history and culture as if there is no difference.

I think this is important to understand that this is really a party that’s very similar to the Soviet Communist Party. And again, people have tried to say, “Well, they’re not really communists, they like to trade, they like to make money.” But when you look closely, every leader since Mao Tse-tung in China has orchestrated a massive capitalist conspiracy against China.

So they see themselves as besieged by the capitalist world, they see themselves as, basically, at ideological war with a non-communist world. They can make concessions, they can be practical in certain terms, but there is this ideological war and we need to start waging that war. This has been a war that’s been waged by one side, the Chinese side, and now the West, the free world, needs to wake up and start fighting back against the Chinese Communist Party.”

  20. A great interview of Jeff by Cliff Kincaid was just posted on this site. It gets especially good about halfway through. Jeff explains how the Brazilians defeated their communists, his views on the vaccine, and more. I just now shared a link to the interview on Twitter, addressing it to various conservative luminaries whom I follow. As a result, their twitter audience will get to see the tweet and the link.

This is one way we can spread important information. Look me up on Twitter to see how to set up a re-tweet that lots of people will see. Just copy what I did there, when you want to share something important.

We all must now get busy doing everything we can to save the Republic. Getting Jeff’s work to be more widely known is a good first step. When people see what you posted on Twitter and like it, they re-tweet it themselves, and that’s how information goes viral. Let’s do all we can, each of us, to get the truth out there!

    This is my Twitter address:
    @Gretchen_Vaughn

I’ve just been posting there for a week, and I already garnered two followers. This is a strategy that is going to yield big results.

  21. I have emailed both of my Senators and asked them to object to the slate of electors from the battleground states on January 6th. I asked them to fight to preserve our Republic and not to give in.
