Is the Friend-Enemy Distinction Evil?

“Our juvenile pride in rejecting any attempt to understand evil is potentially catastrophic. For obviously we cannot manage or control a process we do not understand. This is so self-evident it hurts. We must understand evil, not only abstractly, but intimately. We must grasp what makes an evildoer tick, their outlook, motivations, the psychological rewards they reap from doing evil. We must be able to visit the rooms of the palace of the mind that motivate evil acts, without losing ourselves in the process.”

Bernardo Kastrup, The Daimon and the Soul of the West

Military News is reporting that Russia has moved nuclear weapons into Venezuela. Of course, millions of patriotic Americans are not likely to notice or care. And the U.S. Government may not take notice as well. After all, patriotic Americans (and the U.S. Government) are distracted by internal conflicts, especially with each other.

In this context it is useful to restate Nyquist’s Law: Everyone believes something that someone else thinks is crazy (or evil, or stupid). In other words, human beings like to think of themselves as sane, good, and smart. If somebody disagrees with them, it is not merely a disagreement. Somebody must be insane, evil, or stupid. But this is more serious than it seems; for as the world goes, who agrees 100 percent with anyone?

An artistic illustration depicting the 'Methyspics of Power: The Duuh-Land Schism,' showcasing two contrasting world views: 'Cartesian Frameelmork' on the left, characterized by a mechanical, top-down approach, and 'Ungrounded Spontanism' on the right, highlighting organic, community-driven practices. The imagery features symbolic elements like a sword, brain, and overlapping motifs to represent the civilizational conflict.

It goes without saying that individuals and nations enter into quarrels. Here the friend-enemy distinction comes into view, along with sovereignty, statesmanship, war, and civil war. A book that is quite useful in clarifying these issues is Carl Schmitt’s Concept of the Political [Chicago University Press]. The book and author recently came under attack from anticommunist lecturer James Lindsay, who said Schmitt was a Nazi and his book is therefore statist and evil. But this is an error on the part of Lindsay, whose background is not in political theory. I had mentioned previously Lindsay’s attack on Matt Walsh for referring to the friend-enemy distinction as something intrinsic to Nazism and/or communism. Schmitt is famous for saying that the “concept of the political” revolves around the friend-enemy distinction. According to Schmitt, “In its literal sense and in its historical appearance the state is a specific entity of a people.” [p. 19] As such, added Schmitt, “it is in the decisive case the ultimate authority.” In what is the state the ultimate authority? In making the friend-enemy distinction. Without this distinction, he says, there would be no politics.

I am not entirely clear regarding Lindsay’s argument for the wickedness of Schmitt’s concept of the political. It’s as if Lindsay thinks the Nazis and communists invented enmity, military aggression, persecution of minorities, etc., and therefore justify all their wicked deeds by way of the friend-enemy distinction. But in his book, Schmitt does not offer the friend-enemy distinction as a rationale for war or persecution or totalitarianism. He is not promoting class warfare or race warfare. Note what Schmitt says about this:

“The definition of the political suggested here neither favors war nor militarism, neither imperialism nor pacifism. Nor is it an attempt to idealize the victorious war nor revolution as a ‘social ideal.’ The military battle itself is not the ‘continuation of politics by other means’ as the famous terms of Clausewitz is generally incorrectly cited. War has its own strategic, tactical, and other rules and points of view, but they all presuppose that the political decision has already been made as to who the enemy is. In war the adversaries most often confront each other openly….” [p. 34]

This clarification helps to dispel the idea that Schmitt favors the kind of militarism one finds in totalitarian countries. While Schmitt might be (indirectly) criticizing liberal political theory for failing to have a proper definition of politics, he is not reducing politics to its most divisive and hostile form (as Lindsay alleges). According to Schmitt,

“War is neither the aim nor the purpose nor even the very content of politics. But as an ever present possibility it is the leading presupposition which determines in characteristic way human action and thinking and thereby creates a specifically political behavior.”

Is Schmitt correct is saying this? Try to imagine a world where enmity is impossible. There would be no enemies, no disagreements leading to violence, no need for courts, police, or an army. Why would there be a state at all? Why would there be laws since everyone would always accept what other people did, and never fall into quarrelling over it. Schmitt has offered a rather basic insight into the meaning of politics. If men cannot be enemies, how could anything be political?

“It is conceivable that such a world might contain many very interesting antitheses and contrasts, competitions and intrigues of every kind, but there would not be a meaningful antithesis whereby men could be required to sacrifice life, authorized to shed blood, and kill other human beings. For the definition of the political, it is here even irrelevant whether such a world without politics is desirable as an ideal situation. The phenomenon of the political can be understood only in the context of the ever present possibility of the friend-and-enemy grouping, regardless of the aspects which this possibility implies for morality, aesthetics, and economics.” [p. 35]

Here we enter into the question of sovereignty. Schmitt points to the argument that society is fundamentally pluralistic so that the individual…

“lives in numerous different social entities and associations. He is a member of a religious institution, nation, labor union, family, sports club, and many other associations. These control him in differing degrees from case to case, and impose on him a cluster of obligations in such a way that no one of these associations can be said to be decisive and sovereign.” [p. 41]

What happens if there is a conflict between the loyalties of these groupings. What if a labor union told its members that they could not attend a certain church? What if the member disobeyed? Schmitt explained that, “In the Kulturkampf against the Roman Church it was seen that even a state of the unimpaired strength of Bismarck’s Reich was not absolutely sovereign and powerful.” He then asked whether this state could have stopped the labor unions of the time from striking. Schmitt then made a curious observation:

“The juridic formula of the omnipotence of the state are, in fact, only superficial secularizations of theological formulas of the omnipotence of God. Also, the nineteenth-century German doctrine of the personality of the state is important here because it was in part a polemical antithesis to the personality of the absolute prince, and in part to a state considered as a higher third (vis-a-vis all other social groups) with the aim of evading the dilemma of monarchical or popular sovereignty. But the question remains unanswered: which social entity … decides the extreme case and determines the decisive friend-and-enemy grouping?”

An interesting question, indeed. Who decides the extreme case? Which person or group within society makes the friend-enemy distinction? In communist countries it is the top Communist Party leaders. In the United States, the U.S. President signs a declaration passed by majorities in the House and Senate. (Please note that the American political system has not declared war in more than 80 years, which is an unusually long period of time to go without such a declaration. One might say that the dominant liberal culture is against the very notion that enemies exist, perhaps because the enemy in question is already deeply imbedded in the system itself, leading to political paralysis).

A vibrant, satirical illustration depicting a theatrical scene, with a character resembling Donald Trump in a regal outfit and a MAGA hat, singing in front of a grand backdrop that includes iconic architectural features associated with Russia. Figures in the audience express various emotional reactions. The title at the top reads 'Trumpendot: O Mio Babbo Putiro - A Geopolitical Opera,' alluding to the political satire in the artwork.

Under a plutocratic system, where American money is heavily invested in China, for example, the will to declare war is undermined. It seems that our type of society must await a crushing blow from its existential adversaries before the people and their dismal leaders awaken to the fact that they have enemies. Yet, even in a system with a retarded political sense and decrepit willpower, war will nonetheless be declared (eventually). Even if the President and the Congress were wiped out by nuclear strikes, a new political body would arise, similar in form to the Continental Congress of 1776. Political structures belonging to nations appear and reappear as long as the nation continues to exist. No Church congregation, corporation, or labor union, can make the friend-enemy distinction for a nation. Only its political leadership can do this, even if they are sometimes unable to do so out of weakness. As Schmitt suggests, this is where sovereignty resides, however imperfectly.

An artistic depiction of a dramatic scene inspired by Turandot, featuring a central figure on a throne surrounded by mystical symbols and an audience kneeling before her.

Schmitt wrote, “The concept of the state presupposes the concept of the political.” Then Schmitt said, “the state is the political status of an organized people in an enclosed territorial unit.” Is this a Nazi idea? No. Is it evil? Why would it be evil? It is, on its face, rather pedestrian. Only the disintegrated liberal or libertarian refuses to acknowledge the political status of an organized people enclosed in a territorial unit. It seems they would prefer to make the entire human race, orbiting the market system, the only valid political body. Basing politics on the entire human race, says Schmitt, is an impossibility. The world will never be one political unit. Human beings will always be divided by tribal, religious, and cultural differences. The liberal dream (and the communist dream of global unity) are dangerously impractical and deranged.

A vibrant and intricate illustration depicting a central couple, a man and a woman, engaging in a union with an ethereal background. Spectral figures hover above, and a group of onlookers kneel in reverence, highlighting themes of love and truth. The artwork features symbols and motifs suggesting cosmic significance.

War and political division will always be with us. This fact naturally makes consumer society uncomfortable; especially as comfort and avoiding pain is central to consumerism. This disposition grows even more idiotic when society is spoon-fed liberal ideologies, or libertarian-type ideologies. The corresponding ideologues do not like the concept “enemy,” as it points to the impracticability of anarcho-capitalism or world peace. In moral terms, the Epicurean disposition which Adam Smith recommended in the original 1757 edition of his Theory of Moral Sentiments has been tried in America. It is a great economic success, of course, but it is proving to be a political failure. As a nation we refuse to name our actual enemies. My fear is that we are politically incapable of doing so. Adam Smith blamed war and the misery of mankind on the stoic disposition of the ruling warrior elite of Europe, which he likened to the war-like native tribes of North America. But Smith was mistaken. The warrior aristocracies possessed something the bourgeoisie has never possessed; that is, a keen regard for the friend-enemy distinction. This is exactly what we have lost and must recover.

A dark, mystical scene depicting a robed figure with glowing eyes performing a ritual sacrifice on a young woman lying on an altar, surrounded by hooded figures holding candles, with cryptic symbols on the wall in the background.

Schmitt says,

“A definition of the political can be obtained only by discovering and defining the specifically political categories. In contrast to the various relatively independent endeavors of human thought and action, particularly the moral, the aesthetic, and economic, the political has its own criteria which express themselves in a characteristic way. The political must therefore rest on its own ultimate distinctions, to which all action with a specifically political meaning can be traced.”

An illustration depicting a ceremonial scene where a royal couple shares a kiss amidst a vibrant explosion of colors and cosmic imagery, with a crowd of onlookers gathered around, some kneeling in reverence.

It is, indeed, a tragical comedy that American statesmen sometimes treat America’s friends as enemies and America’s enemies as friends. In our zeal for equality we thought the old warrior aristocrats were enemies of democracy and liberty, and modernity kicked them to the curb. We failed to notice that liberal society (with all its freedoms) was built and survived because of its illiberal supports (i.e., the warrior aristocrats). Free society requires a marriage of contrary elements, a coniuctio oppositorum, a marriage of rights and duties (where each reflects the other). The state draws its authority from a political grouping (or people enclosed by a territory), though that group does not effectively possess rights unless there is a class of persons devoted to politics and war and who hold office within the state. The formula must seek balance in order to produce intelligent statesmanship. If it fails, a tragical comedy will follow of a state that cannot tell friend from foe.

A whimsical illustration depicting a theatrical scene with historical figures, theatrical props, and celestial elements, emphasizing humor and philosophy with the quote 'Laughter is the breath of tragedy' prominently displayed.

How do we recover our political sense? Every system has an elite. Robert Michels famously wrote that “democracy is another way of organizing oligarchy.” One way or another you are going to end up with leaders who form into an elite. The only question is what kind of elite? Do we want reality TV stars and Fox News commentators? Do we want academically trained socialists, publicity hounds, ideologues? I fear we are at a loss when it comes to understanding the most basic things. In politics the most basic thing comes down to this: Who are our enemies and who are our friends? When are we going to get the right answer to this question?

  2. Is not the most basic understanding that we need is the understanding of what is true, and why? Without that understanding, how can we recognize who are friends, and who are enemies?

Already, when I was a student at the university, I noticed that most of my fellow students didn’t know what they believed. They would flit from one idea to another, not recognizing when they contradicted themselves. How is that not a fertile ground for recruitment, not only of “useful idiots” if not full-blown cadres?

For example, if you favor capitalism (as I do), are the mega corporations, those “too big to fail” corporations, also known as “crony capitalists”, still capitalist? Or have those corporations crossed a line from capitalist to fascist (which is a form of communism)? What defines “capitalism”? So that government policies could be formulated to prevent the development of mega corporations that become de facto branches of government? I am not an economist myself, I haven’t done a detailed study of this question, I just have some ideas based on a lifetime of observation.

On the question of religion (much closer to my heart), do we treat all religions as equally valid, or do we recognize when a religion is so inimical to our constitutional government that it instructs its followers to overthrow our Constitutional republic and replace it with a system of laws in accordance with their religion? Do we allow immigrants who believe such a religion? If they are already in our country, do we allow them full privileges of citizenship, such as voting? How would we recognize such enemies of our country, especially when they are instructed to lie, to obfuscate what are their true goals?

There are more questions that can be asked, but with these I hope that the pattern is clear, that we need to be able to define for ourselves who we are and what we believe, in order to recognize who are our friends, and who are our enemies.

    1. Since the early 1990s, Christian belief has been eroding in the United States. A recent PEW study suggests this has leveled off recently. It seems to be a major factor in the ongoing Culture War. The Church broke apart during the Reformation, 500 years ago, and now there are more than 10,000 denominations of Christianity. Many of these Christians deny that the other denominations are Christian at all. It is difficult to find a way through this problem, and the solution has been to move toward a secular solution in which everyone agrees to disagree. This goes back to my point, at the beginning of this essay, that “everyone believes something that someone else thinks is crazy (or evil, or stupid). The problem appears to be a very touchy one. Human beings always change their beliefs, disagree, shift toward differing interpretations. Political groupings can be partly formed from this coloring. Rapid shifts in peoples ideologies and theologies has undermined or destabilized the foundations of the Western nations. Another problem.

Just a slight correction – the true Catholic Church is Divine Institution and cannot and have not erred in matters of Faith and Morals, as that would means, if this was possible, that the Holy Ghost that Christ Our Lord promised to teach His Church all things, and that Our Lord is with His true Church all days, even unto the consummation of the world, that wouldn’t be true, which is contrary to the Holy Scripture.

But because of sin and denial of the Authority of the true Catholic Church by most of this now godless and apostate world, the Church is now back in the catacombs and what you see sitting in the Vatican today is a horrible non-Catholic apostate sect of enemies of the Church, many of which are suspected to be communist agents. It goes back to the early 1962 when they began to change the Sacraments and so on, but the Church stands protected by Her Canon Law and Apostolic Constitutions and so on, as this Novus Ordo Sect is all excommunicated, without any exception. Only those who seek the whole truth will be helped by God, the rest will have to endure the communist tyranny when it comes. It is all written in the Holy Scripture and foretold by Our Lady of Fatima etc.

Yes we need to know what is true.

For example this statement, “It has leaked that Russia moved nuclear weapons into Venezuela”. I have repeatedly asked the author for a legitimate source.

      Such a statement deserves clarification

      1. I presented the link to Military TV to your first posting. No need to keep writing the question out. When you post here for the first time it takes a few hours to clear the post. After that your posts should appear immediately.

Do you have any authoritative sources for your claim other than a YouTube channel?

This one aint cutting the mustard

        1. I have sources in Brazil that have been reporting on transfer of nuclear weapons to Venezuela, and Putin has publicly threatened to do this if we sent certain weapons to Ukraine. It is being reported. You can deny it if you please.

        2. Don’t knock YouTube channels, several of them have become documentaries of up-to-date information. Much of it unavailable from other sources.

Having said that, the particular channel that contains this information repeats Russian propaganda. But the positioning of nuclear weapons in Venezuela and Nicaragua is the type of information that even Russian propaganda would want to be told as a threat. The same way that Medved claimed that Russian submarines with nuclear missiles are off our coasts. Like Jeff, I find this information to be believable.

          1. Sorry, I misspelled Medvedev.

          2. Yes. Putting missiles and weapons into Venezuela has been discussed for almost two decades, and it would be surprising if they did not do it.

  4. “Since the early 1990s”? You’re more than a century too late.

First came a redefinition of what is Christianity and to be a Christian. That started in the state churches during the first decade of the 1800s. That was all state churches, both “Protestant” and Catholic. By the 1930s, Germany had become for all intents and purposes, a post-Christian nation. People still were members of the state churches, often because of laws mandating membership, not conscience. (I lived in Europe and saw that in practice.) This is the “Christianity” that Nietzsche fulminated against.

The European redefinition of “Christianity” came to a head in the U.S. in the 1930s and following, when “mainstream” churches were taken over. But most of the laity didn’t recognize the redefinition, so continued attending churches. Their children and grandchildren couldn’t see any reason to continue such empty traditions, so have been leaving the churches in droves. Especially since the 1990s.

That redefinition of “Christianity” was aided by communist infiltrators into the denominations.

Today many of the young people that I know are nihilists, don’t believe in anything. They are easily swayed by slogans and lies. Many of those slogans and lies come from communists. “Contradictions”? What are those? That’s what I see tearing us apart.

    1. The steep decline of church attendance has been tracked since the 1990s. I do not know what redefining of doctrine you mean. There has been a lot of agitation in the Churches over the last 500 years.

      1. There was agitation in the churches before 500 years ago, though much of it was brutally suppressed. An example of this is the burning at the stake of Jan Hus. Foxe’s book of martyrs documented much brutal suppression spanning centuries before the Reformation.

There was also plenty of theology changes, from Biblical primacy to neo-Platonism as practiced by such as Augustine and the Venerable Bede as well as many others. Then Thomas Aquinas and his followers replaced that with neo-Aristotelianism. One of Luther’s chief points in his debate with Johann Eck in 1519, Leipzig, was that church councils had contradicted each other as they changed Catholic doctrines.

A little over two centuries ago, what was then a new theory concerning the Bible was introduced that challenged the historical understanding its authorship. By 1820 it was taught in universities / seminaries throughout Europe. It had no historical evidence at its beginning, and still has none. That theory was codified by Wellhausen around 1870 as the JEPD theory. It has gone under different names since. The changing of church doctrine to which I referred is that before that theory, churches gave at least lip service to the Bible as supreme, after that anything goes. As the older generations die off, newer generations often no longer see relevance in maintaining churches. That goes for all major denominations, both “Protestant” and Catholic. That even effects Jewish synagogues and temples. That has fractured denominations.

The relevance for us here is that the teachings found in the Bible constitute a major bullwork against Marxist socialism. But today, when anything goes, Marxist “Liberation theology” becomes a viable option. Even civil society has changed–before that theory, the Bible still had influence also on those who didn’t believe it, now all is permitted.

        1. This is a very complicated subject that takes us to controversies that cannot be sorted here.

  5. Jeff, just wanting your opinion if possible, I am currently developing a powerpoint presentation for you and your readers on what happened to Hong Kong, originally the presentation was called exposing the ‘Hong Kong Pro-Democracy Movement’, it’s now been renamed to The untold story of Hong Kong 1960’s to 2020, espionage and fake/controlled opposition/the ‘Hong Kong Pro-Democracy Movement’ are the CCP, this is also due to the translated articles as well

Traitors, incompetents, idiots, people possessed by the devil and such like specimen, such like elements, they have never won a war not have been at the helm of a country protecting it the right way, that is with the view of the upcoming danger to the very survival of the particular country.

That said – traitors don’t protect the country, they betray it – and have no moral regret in doing so, and so when such traitors are equipped or do hold the evil ideology of communism, they are fanatics and will never back off until they are victorious, or until they are eliminated, whichever comes first.

The freedom loving people must therefore unite, but their unity must be founded on the ground that must be sound, and merely preserving the way of life as they are used to is not enough…why is it so ?

Because the one Who grants such help is God Himself as without Him we can do nothing, and every kingdom divided against itself shall be made desolate – as it is written.

The unity of such freedom loving people must be therefore in their belief in God – and this is the serious problem and more serious than people would like to admit – and if people look like how they treat each other, how little charity and hospitality is left in this world, how so much hate and evil is progressing, that is the answer to this question – God is offended and so He will permit this trial to go on, when the communist criminals will one way or another take over the whole world and establish tyranny the likes of which has never been seen in the history of this world…until the wrath of God, after the long 3 and half years of the reign of the Antichrist, is appeased.

Everything is foretold, and people are not changing, they love evil, hate those who detest it and those who are trying to live in accordance to the Laws of God and of His Church.

Everything else has been said already. War is coming, either civil war, communist revolution, or bloody nuclear and bio-chem war from Russia and China etc., either way, evil times are coming. When ? That’s up to God when He will permit it to start.

Hello, mr. Nyquist! Great essay as usual. Slightly off-topic: I’m enjoying the images with which you are illustrating your essays lately. Are they made with your own prompts to an AI tool? I don’t think it would be way off-topic to have an essay describing your process to come up with these images, as they allude to some inner meanings and suggest some connections that the essays themselves have to leave out. Would you mind telling us a little about that process?

    1. A friend who is an artist, and is well educated in the classics, composes the drawings by sketching them. The drawing are scanned into a computer so that an AI rendering of the drawings is built. I discuss the themes of the essay beforehand, and certain symbols or themes present themselves. Some of these themes have implications for future essays or hidden meanings. The AI is obviously made by communists because it changes what we draw and refuses to accept some of our images. We even write names or put in caricatured faces, but the AI says this is “not allowed.” We have been playing with this, and struggling with it. But we see this as part of the process, where our own drawings are balked by the enemy’s AI process. Here we see, between the lines, the themes we are supposed to use (according to the Dark Enlightenment, which the AI likes). We are subverted it while it attempts to subvert us. A curious learning experience in itself.

The images are fascinating. They add otherworldliness to the text. Each would require an essay of it’s own for me to understand at least some of the hidden meanings.

  8. Concerned, I thought you didn’t accept Protestant teachings. Yet in this statement, “3 and half years of the reign of the Antichrist” you repeat a teaching introduced by the Plymouth Brethren, a teaching I can’t find in the Bible. Don’t claim that it is found in Daniel 9:24-27, as that part of the passage refers to the Roman seven-year suppression of the Jewish revolt of 66-73 AD. That part of the passage was mis-translated in the KJV (I don’t think deliberately, just that they didn’t know Hebrew language that well), which has led to some strange interpretations.

    1. On the other hand, I agree with most of what you wrote.

      CONCERNED

It is a Catholic Church’s doctrine, the reign of the Antichrist will last 3 and half years, and we have never heard about Plymouth brothers at all. Book of Daniel speaks about it, and the best English translation of the Holy Scripture is the original Douay-Rheims bible, about 1572 AD print, and or early 1600s AD print.

Those were the people that escaped England because of the Henry VIII persecution of the Catholic Church there, they settled in northern France. What you have written is your own view, we have nothing to do with that, nor would get involved in any discussion of it, this is just to correct what you have written above about it.

      1. Daniel wrote that in the Hebrew language. You don’t know Hebrew. I do. I don’t read it in an English translation. Reading that passage in Hebrew, it gives accurate information concerning the Roman suppression of the Jewish revolt, 66-73 AD. That description fits no other war. There’s nothing about an anti-Christ in that passage.

As for the Plymouth Brethren, not many people know about them. They’re the ones who invented the 3.5 years the anti-Christ reigns. They based that on a mistranslation of Daniel by the KJV, apparently also repeated in Douay-Rheims Bible. Go back and read it for yourself–even in translation it doesn’t mention anti-Christ. That is an interpretation added by the Plymouth Brethren and widely popularized since.

I have no more to say on this issue.

We don’t follow Protestant opinions nor read their biblical publications.

The teaching of the Catholic Church goes back to St. Paul and the Apostles and to Christ Our Lord as the Divine Founder of the true Roman Catholic Church, we have only replied to your implicit statement that as Catholics we follow opinion of some brothers from Plymouth….that is false. We obey the infallible teaching and doctrine of the Church, which true Church has the assistance of the Holy Ghost, according to the promise of Our Lord, which is confirmed by countless miracles over the centuries, which Protestants don’t recognize or deny, including the Eucharistic miracle of Lanciano (cca. 750 AD), which is to this day on display to public view down there…links are available on the search engine to various videos, how the host at Mass turned instantly into human flesh (a slice of myocardium of the human heart) and the wine in the chalice turner instantly after the formula into human blood….type is the same as found on the Shroud of Turin of Christ Our Lord.

The blood is preserved after 1275 years in the state if yell (5 balls) with all the minerals and quality of the live human blood, as if it was still inside the live human body…

The Novus Ordo Sect promoted some of their fabricated “miracles”, which has no credibility nor approval as true miracles of God and cannot be given credibility at all.

As far as your KJV – that contains heretical inventions and incorrect translations, but that is outside the scope of the post.

Douay-Rheims is the translation of St. Jerome’s 4th century Latin Vulgate, which is based on the original Hebrew Septuagint in the Old Testament before the Jews changed it afterwards and removed some mentions of Christ Our Lord – Luther used this new translation instead of the Septuagint, and when asked about this new and erroneous version why it is so, he answered that him, master Luther, will have it so….Beza was the same violator of the Holy Scripture, it is notoriously known.

          1. CONCERNED Avatar
            CONCERNED

Wanted to add that the Septuagint was the Greek translation of the original Hebrew text of the Holy Scripture, the Old Testament. St. Jerome not only spoke the languages, but was an extraordinary theologian, he was commissioned by the Pope St. Damasus to go to Jerusalem and translate the whole Holy Scripture into Latin, so he did – the work is called Vulgata, Vulgate, and has been declared by the Holy Council of Trent as the Catholic Church’s Bible. The Douay-Rheims bible is the exact translation of this Latin Vulgate. The history of how the English Catholics had to flee England because of the persecution of Henry VIII and so on, is in the beginning of this Douay-Rheims print, it is extremely valuable historical account.

          2. Concerned: you repeatedly refer to yourself as “we”, so you are not an individual? How many are in your group?

I don’t follow the KJV. I thought I made that clear when I mentioned mistakes in it. I read the Old Testament in Hebrew and Aramaic, and the New in koiné Greek. Those are the originals.

There is no such thing as a “Hebrew Septuagint”. Do you know of what you post? There are things you have written that make me think you don’t know of which you post. The Septuagint is a Greek translation of the Old Testament. Jerome went back to the Hebrew and Aramaic, not the Greek translation, for the Old Testament. Like Jerome, Luther also went to the Hebrew and Aramaic to make his translation of the Old Testament, and to koiné Greek for the New. But for his personal Bible reading, he continued reading the Vulgate.

I could write more, but I don’t want to. Nor do I think Jeff would appreciate it.

  9. I have followed another geopolitical analyst, Peter Zeihan for a while. He made these important points in a short video regarding Trump 2.0 since coming back to office in January. Things like thinking he was going to get Putin to end the war simply because they’re “Bros” or… always wanting to be “the smartest guy in the room” hence why he’s gotten rid of most folks/experts who are familiar with Russian strategies, and could direct him in what to do or how to go about dealing with the Communist regime there. He also touches on how Tulsi Gabbard (with her new role) has managed to keep Trump from getting any inkling that the Russians and the Kremlin have been laughing at his ignorance to what’s really going on with their invasion of Ukraine.

    https://youtu.be/rCtfhE4LqXg?si=bhIR8zXAzop__T2G

    1. Zeihan does not seem to understand the communist connection between Russia, China, Venezuela, Cuba, North Korea, etc. He seems to treat these countries as if they had separate national interests.

      1. Yes, I know he doesn’t see or understand the real threat, Ie the Communist movement over the last 50 yrs or currently, but he’s spot on with the points he makes about our current President in this specific video.

Trump doesn’t listen to any advisors regarding national security or the threats we (the U.S.) face via Communist regimes (working together). He doesn’t read anything, and he tunes in to the fake conservative network Faux News for all his political information abroad. He’s flying blind in my opinion.
And…obviously he’s ignorant to the fact that he has a communist/Russian sympathizer as his National Security guru in charge of all Intel agencies here in Tulsi Gabbard.
My gripe is that We The People are depending on these “elected” so called “leaders” and have been for decades, and they all (both sides of the political aisle) are absolutely clueless about our enemies and the evil they infiltrate and inflict and that there are indeed regimes working together to destroy our country, our way of life here.

I have refused to vote in the Presidential election for the past 2 elections. Both political parties are infiltrated and corrupt. Each just wants their turn at the wheel so to speak.
But…in ‘24 I went to the voting booth and contrary to my gut, I voted for DJT, because in my mind we would not survive as a nation under another Communist leaning Democrat, his opponent. And then, much to my dismay, we have all had to endure his idiocy as I’ve already noted regarding our real enemy Russia, Putin, and his refusal to support Ukraine.

And as a healthcare worker in the federal system, today I feel targeted once again. First, after Trump’s Operation Warp Speed was launched, having to then deal with the newly “elected” Biden and his mandatory decree for all federal workers to take the untested, fast-tracked biological agent/weapon/gene therapy….then this year, courtesy Trump administration 2.0 and his crony Musk (via DOGE) having to justify my weekly tasks for 2+ months, only to now have to endure another assault on federal employees with the current shutdown…I help people, current military and their families and retired service member who’ve been injured. Period. I don’t want to have to be involved in this partisan bs of DC. But I am and my own family has to deal with political theatre seems like every few months…

I’ve grown tired of the antics and the bs and the absolute ignorance that our “leaders” have in protecting We The People from attack. Talk talk talk…podcasts, videos, interviews but nothing gets done…period. No meaningful action, in preventing an attack on me and my family right here in America.

        1. It is the culture of our country, and the attitudes that prevail. Things will change when we are forced, at long last, to deal with the truth.

Russian communists will make sure that the time period allowed for the western countries to realize that they’ve been had by the Bolshevik deception is severely limited…when the crises turns into a bloody nuclear mayhem within minutes, that’s how short the time period will be, and then only bare survival…it is truly very sad that people don’t realize how evil these communist monsters truly are.

But they will continue their subversive operations, the nuclear option is when all of the subversion is finished, unless they want to make an example of the US so that they can blackmail Europe and the rest of the world into early surrender…which is not a far fetched option either.

But it is true, the mind of the country has been shaped by long years of the Russian communist propaganda, in entertainment industry, secular state run “schools” and so on, and the damage is done, horrible and very substantial damage.

He left 3 weeks into the 6 week assignment bc got scared when a missile flew over his head. At one point the veteran said to GT “You do realize Russia’s right. There are biolabs here. This nation, Ukraine, is horrible. You’re fighting the wrong battle.” I hope this guy is not representative of how most American military veterans view the Ukraine War.

Konstantin from Inside Russia weighs in on whether aggressive Western propaganda can persuade the Russian people turn against the regime. He notes that despite state restrictions, most people in Russia have access to Western news media and to independent Russian language reporting if they so choose. The problem is not access to information, but the mindset of most Russian people which makes them unable or unwilling to think critically or to question the Kremlin narrative. In other words, their minds are closed. (One could say the same of Westerners who can’t perceive that Russia, China and the whole Communist bloc are united against us.) He notes that Trump rolling out the red carpet to Putin at the Alaska summit was a big propaganda win for the regime.

Jeffrey Nyquist, I’m from Brazil. Sorry for my English. How do you feel about the real possibility that a Russian-Chinese attack could destroy the United States and consequently enslave the rest of the world? Do you think you’ve thought about what you would do to survive, or are you not thinking about it, since you know a lot about communists (because I, here in Brazil, have thought a lot about this, based on your work, that if the United States falls, life in Brazil will become more difficult for us Brazilians, and I don’t see much of an alternative. May God have mercy on us and preserve our lives). What is your view on the Bildenbeg group and Western financial oligarchies? Do you think they are independent actors, as Olavo de Carvalho said, that they form a power scheme that competes with the Russians, Chinese, and the Islamic bloc for world domination? Or do you think they are manipulated or even created by communists? What is your view on the European monarchies? Do you think they are easily manipulated by communists and can even benefit communists? In your view, are Rothchild, Rockefeller, etc., independent actors or manipulated by communists? Could you please recommend books on the history of the communist revolution without the conspiracy bias of Antony Sutton that you criticize? You said that the former Soviet bloc countries are dominated by the communist elite. Does this include all countries like the Czech Republic, Romania, etc., or are there levels and not all are completely dominated? Thank you very much for your work. May God continue to give you knowledge and bless you!

      1. Nice library of PDFs!

    1. There is a large conspiracy literature that has exaggerated the power of the Bilderberg Group and also the Rothschilds. Anthony Sutton was rightly dismissed from the Hoover Institute. 2. A comment from a Brazilian scholar, which he was unable to post, follows. He commented on my article above:

“Indeed, this reflection touches on one of the most profound paradoxes of political modernity: the liberal order, which celebrates openness, equality, and procedural neutrality, has always depended on a substratum of illiberal virtues—honor, hierarchy, and the disciplined capacity for conflict. The old ‘warrior aristocrats,’ dismissed as relics of oppression, in fact provided the formative ethos through which liberal institutions could be defended and sustained. Without them, liberty degenerates into sentimentalism; rights lose the weight that only duty can give them.

“Your notion of a coniunctio oppositorum is precisely what is missing in the modern state: the reconciliation of freedom and form, of moral substance and political prudence. When these contraries are divorced, politics becomes either technocratic management or moral hysteria—both incapable of distinguishing friend from foe, order from chaos. A society that disarms its guardians in the name of tolerance soon finds itself undefended, not only militarily but metaphysically.

“The tragedy, then, is not merely political but civilizational: a comedy of ideals detached from their sustaining archetypes. The intelligent statesman must rediscover the art of tension—how to govern liberty through strength, and strength through restraint. Without this equilibrium, democracy will continue mistaking its physicians for its enemies and its destroyers for its allies.”

A few articles ago, there was a discussion in the comments about Our Lady of Fatima. I wanted to comment but I was a little busy at the time so I’d like to add my comment here.

In the book Alien Intrusion by Gary Bates, and in countless other accounts, people who are suffering harassment and unwanted contact from UFOs/UAPs/”alien” abduction or visitation are able to repel the entities by invoking Jesus. Bates also shows that many of the people who become “contactees” were involved in the New Age or occult. The messages that these entities want to share with us usually involve religious indifferentism and are especially anti-Christian in nature.

We can judge a tree by its fruits, and we have that from the highest source ( St. Matthew 7:16) The apparition who appeared at Fatima had the opposite message of the typical alien contactee. The most prominent concrete change as a result of the apparitions was the addition of what is now referred to as the Fatima Prayer to end of each decade of the rosary: “Oh my Jesus, forgive us our sins, save us from the fires of hell, and lead all souls to heaven, especially those most in need of thy mercy.” This to me is a perfect prayer, it says so much in so little space. It also does not promote universal salvation or indifferentism; in it we ask Jesus to lead those who are most in need, it’s not a guarantee that they will follow. This prayer is prayed 5 or more times a day by the millions of Catholics who prays the rosary.

The second most prominent change was the introduction of a devotion asking Catholic to attend an extra mass on the first Saturday of the month, to confess, spend extra time in prayer and meditation on the events of Jesus’s life, death, and resurrection, with the understanding that we are working towards the conversion of Russia and a period of mercy for the world.

These don’t sound like the messages we normally receive from the space brothers. I can’t think of a single other UFO/UAP/abduction account where the entities promoted orthodox Christian doctrines and practices and opposed communism. Normally the new age message from contactees is mixed in with commie/disarmament themes.

It’s not easy to dig into L.A. Marzulli’s sources because all of his documentaries require payment to watch. I would think he makes enough money from the thirty dollar t-shirts and twenty dollar coffee mugs that dominate the main page of his website to get by ok and be willing to spread his supposed important truths about Christianity for free.

I read parts of one of his books years ago and found it completely unserious. Scanning through his youtube channel is like Coast to Coast mixed with 700 Club (full disclosure: I still enjoy Coast to Coast sometimes). He makes some claims about Fatima that no one else is claiming anywhere, so I tried to look and find his sources. The man in Portugal that he relies on seems to be secular, I have not heard any reference to him being a Christian of any kind in their talks. One of the other people he relies on in Portugal is the 5th (I think)-generation leader of some kind of spiritist church or cult. The photo that he shows to be a smoking gun seems like nothing of the kind to me. Again none of this is systematically laid out, it took some digging for me to uncover this.

Here is an article from Dr. Michael Heiser, who had a dispute with Marzulli. Marzulli was promoting a fairy skeleton (this basically tells you all you need to know about him), and claiming he had it examined in a lab, etc. etc. Heiser asked Marzulli to publish the details of the examination and be transparent. He instead attacked Heiser and refused to be transparent. It’s a ridiculous story, but it tells you something about the man.

Marzulli covers alot of ground, and some of it is silly. It’s self undermining, like a lot of alternate media personalities.

          2. Quayle interviewed me about three times, I think. I never followed his work, but I heard many sensational things. How giant were these alleged skeletons? Was he making stuff up?

Somehow he had lab work done on the fairy skeleton, but he wouldn’t say where or what or anything like that. It was eventually revealed to be a fraud , but he promoted it before figuring that out.

          1. There is a fine line between sensationalism and a genuine attempt to understand what we are seeing.

      2. The history of the phenomenon is complex and difficult to discuss. UFOs are not things we understand. Human beings are limited in their understanding.

My point in attacking his merchandise sales and paywalls is that if he’s talking about matters of faith, if he believes Catholics are living in the dark and honoring something evil, he should be doing all he can to try to save us. Somehow the rest of the internet is full of free documentaries. Somehow the evil money-grubbing Catholic Church shared a great abundance of information on Fatima with the public for free. But now this man comes along with all this novel information on exploding cars and additional psychics and it’s difficult to find where he got it from.

We should keep in mind that at the time of the apparitions, Portugal was under the rule of the First Republic, which was very anti-Catholic, and would have discouraged anything that encouraged public devotion. Remember that the shepherd children in Fatima were jailed and threatened if they don’t stop talking about the apparitions. These new documents that Marzulli’s contacts in Portugal allege to have found could have been forged a century ago, and after sitting in an archive for this long now appear authentic with age. The Catholic Church does a full and skeptical investigation of these apparitions and the majority of them are never approved for the public. Not every old document and not every recorded testimony is true. People lie for various reasons.

Marzulli’s entire take on Fatima is basically repeating the story of Francisco Correa, a Portuguese ufologist who founded the group Exopolitics Portugal, which is dedicated to formulating public policy on extraterrestrials. Correa’s life’s work is dedicated to the extraterrestrial theory of UFOs and preparing us for contact.

        https://www.exopaedia.org/Francisco+Mourao+Correa

Some of the goals of the Exopolitics Institute:

-To prepare humanity for open interaction with extraterrestrials whose existence is supported by credible evidence.

-To promote peaceful cooperation with extraterrestrials that evidence suggests are aligned with the advancement of global peace, human empowerment, and human sovereignty.

        https://exopoliticsinstitute.org/about-exopolitics-institute/goals/

It looks like Mr Correa could be approaching the issue with a bit of a bias.

You can find the story he told to Marzulli in many places on the web, including Whitley Strieber’s podcast. Strieber wrote Communion and is a new age “contactee”. There is good information about him in the book Alien Intrusion by Gary Bates.

The page for Strieber’s interview with Correa includes this gem:

“At the beginning of the show, Whitley talks about fainting during the episode because of something that happened during the 3 AM meditation that he has every morning.”

3 AM is sometimes referred to as the devil’s hour. I’ll say no more. If you read up on Mr Strieber you’ll see he’s not someone to listen to, and he pushes the same take on Fatima that Marzulli does.

        https://unknowncountry.com/dreamland/the-first-and-greatest-ufo-event-of-the-20th-century/

For more on Correa’s organization, you can see the Exopolitics Journal at http://www.exopoliticsjournal.org . You can read about “The Creation of Modern Man, His Society, Culture, Civilisation, and Religions by Extraterrestrial Races,” and all kinds of other silly things. I know you don’t like the Catholic Church, but this organization is the source of the opposite (occult and new age) take on the story.

Regarding Correa and Marzulli’s “4th seer”, this part of the discussion starts at 9m8s in this video

Correa: …the Catholic Church doesn’t recognize psychics or channeling.

Marzulli: Right, right, and we know that’s exactly what happened, I mean, you took us to the um, I’m trying to think of the word for it, it’s not the original building where all this came down…

Correa: No, no, no, no. We went to a place where um, it’s like you would call it a temple of psychics, and we talked to uhh the leader of that temple, who was I believe a relative to one of the original psychics who received the message, and we had a conversation with her.

Marzulli: We saw the handwritten document that was published…

Correa: The document is from March 10, 1917…

I will accept the mainstream take on Fatima over all these ufologist psychic new age weirdos. Correa’s work also borrows from Joaquim Fernandes and Fina D’Armanda. Marzulli cites their books. You can look into these people too if you want, they are also unsurprisingly left-wing new age types.

I go back to what I said earlier: Marzulli is a mix of Coast to Coast with the 700 Club, and it keeps him from working a day job.

        1. Thank you for discussing these important and complex points. The government was against the revelations of the children. And Correa is certainly biased if he has already accepted the extraterrestrial hypothesis.

I wanted to add more thing about Mr Correa, from his exopaedia bio:

“Francisco has been part of the production, and participated in the filming in Portugal, of documentaries like “UFO Europe” and “Planet UFO” both for National Geographic Channel, and “Extraterrestres” seasons 1, 2 and 3 for the History Channel. He has also participated in news segments of Portuguese TV channels, as well and radio shows, talk shows, and he also collaborates with the UFO Truth Magazine.”

He is involved with the kind of UFO garbage produced on the History Channel, Nat Geo, and UFO Truth Magazine. That tells you some more about the guy.

        1. The best ufologists do not think the ET hypothesis fits the evidence. I point to Jacques Vallee, who has worked on this problem longer than anyone.

What that entity actually telepathicly communicated the world may never know, since it’s been filtered and throughly managed by the RCC. Btw the Children never said was Mary. And if you pay 3 dollars and it doesn’t break the bank you’ll see that apparitions were not uncommon in that whole area of Portugal related to pagan activities for many many years. The eye witnesses saw a disk and it hurt people. And when God communicates through angels he doesn’t do it in such a manner, telepathicly and vaguely without identifying the source.

      1. for thousands of years before the Christian era, there were phenomena which people related to the pagan gods. You may read these stories in Livy’s history, and in Herodotus, Polybius, and more.

The 4 witnesses at Fatima originayl described a blonde woman, that never identified herself as Mary. Spoke telepathicly to Lucia and neither verbally or telepathicly to the other 2. Sounds like Mary to me.

          3. This is certainly a supernatural occurrence, with tens of thousands of witnesses of the main event on Oct 13, 1917. Furthermore, the prophecies given align with what happened after. No false prophecies. Right? Where is the deception? Where is the demonic harm? It’s very funny how we judge direct manifestations of the supernatural according to how we think these things should occur, or how the lady ought to look, or by some suspicions we have. What evil has come from this manifestation? Is it not a warning well meant? Why would it be demonic rather than angelic? When a careful analysis shows that Russia and China are planning to destroy us, and nearly everyone is deaf, dumb, and blind to it, but an apparition warns of impending destruction on the eve of the Bolshevik Revolution, it certainly has my attention.

Thank you Jeff, this is the point I was ultimately driving at. Judge the tree by its fruits. A message that goes completely against what other entities and beings tell people. UFO contactees never say, “the aliens told me to pray, go to mass, confess my sins, do penance, and pray for the end of communism.”

If one has an ax to grind with Catholicism, even this somehow appears to be an act of evil and deception. Russian Orthodox people view it this way….that reveals something too.

          5. The Kremlin is very concerned with this Fatima message. It is a message that certainly puts the spotlight on Russia’s plans to spread communism through war.

Yes, Putin visited the Novus Ordo Sect in the Vatican while Bergoglio was still alive, he reportedly asked him about Fatima (this was spread around by the heretic Williamson BTW), and Bergoglio replied that they don’t talk about Fatima there…the Sect, that is.

Then reportedly Bergoglio attempted to “consecrate Russia”, the result is that Russia then invaded Ukraine and have not converted to the Catholic religion, as the Novus Ordo Sect is not Catholic, one more additional proof what the truth is about this horrible sect of the devil.

It is reasonable to assert that the whole religion came from the KGB directorate, because it was stated by Pacepa that the “Liberation Theology” was produced by the KGB, so in order to destroy the Catholic Faith, which is nothing else but Catholic Tradition, the communists had to invent something else, which this new religion is that product.

Only the true Pope can consecrate Russia, but then the message of Fatima said that the true Pope will do it, but it will be late…that Russia will already spread her errors throughout the world etc.

          7. The consecration of Russia by the Pope was to be performed in union with all the bishops of the world in order to fulfill the requirements stated by Our Lady. That clearly was not done, quite apart from any other problematic element of the so-called consecration.

          8. There always seems to be an evasion when it comes to fulfilling what was asked. Since the Church recognized the miracle after the local bishop spent many years investigating, why would they avoid fulfilling the request by the letter? It is a most interesting thing.

            CONCERNED

            Excellent question !

There is a serious history of it. Pope Pius XI perhaps didn’t get all the information and then when he died and because of WW2 turmoil afterwards, Pope Pius XII when he was elected in 1938 AD, he wanted to consecrate Russia, but was apparently mislead, the secret still being kept in Portugal by the local bishop – these details are from memory only.

Then Pius XII did the consecration but alone, which is not what Our Lady requested, but there are accounts that he was purposely mislead to believe that he can do it alone, without all the bishops involved.

This is one of the additional circumstantial evidence that the communists had already agents within the Vatican, as Montini was one of them, and as Gen. Sejna testified (Red Cocaine, pg. 40 something) the Czechoslovak communist espionage had at least 3 high level agents inside the Vatican, possibly in 1950s and so on (Pope Pius XII died in 1958 AD).

So then the Fatima message has been in hands of the enemies of the Church, as the heretic and no true Priest Nicolas Gruner, and so on. He had ties to Montini, who had secret ties to the Kremlin – no joke.

They wanted to suppress the truth about Fatima, the Novus Ordo Sect invented various versions, one worse than the other, none of it true.

Montini allowed Russian KGB “Orthodox” observers at the so called gathering in 1963, which was not a true Council of the Church, as by then they were all heretics, them giving consent to Roncalli (previously John XXIII) promulgating new and heretical Pontificale Romanum in early 1962 AD – lot of people don’t know these details and the heretics purposely misrepresent the facts, so as to confuse and mislead those who want to become truly Catholic.

The situation of the Catholic Church is at the center of this Russian communist strategy and conspiracy…is it therefore essential to understand what the truth is and why it has happened.

          11. The story sounds incredible. Can it be proved?

          12. True Popes and false Popes. It makes my head hurt. It seems that human beings in general have this problem with falsity.

Well, Church Law matters, but when these enemies began to impose false religion and sabotaged the Canon Law and so on, the Church stands protected and they only succeeded to excommunicated themselves and loose their clerical offices in the process. A heretic, if he was validly elected to the Papacy, by Divine Law and Church Law automatically looses that Papal Office, which is the case of John XXIII Roncalli in February 1962 AD – that’s how far back it goes. Roncalli had ties to the Italian Communist Party…

We don’t what the levitating non self identifiying entity telepathicly communicated, Lucia wasn’t allowed to answer questions about it. Many say she pressured into seculusion. Years after do we get these warnings. And no one wants to address the disk burning people and igniting cars. It’s possible the warnings were well intended fabrications. Surely anyone with a pulse would see that Bolshevists in Russia would be a problem. Why does Mary need to be involved? Only 3 people saw the apparition and the miracle of the sun was seen by 10s thousands. Why so little mention of the craft? Esp from the RCC? Why is the fourth witness disregarded? Biblical encounters with heavenly angels don’t fit this pattern. The RCC typically tries to rescue pagan phenomenon traditions locations and artifacts and reappropriate them to itself. I’m not not convinced they didn’t do so here.

          15. Are you suggesting the origins of Christianity itself are rooted in pagan phenomena? The Protestant churches are themselves born out of the Catholic Church. Are you suggesting a process of rationalization of theology has occurred out of what was a supernatural Catholic founding? St. Peter was a Protestant, then? Perhaps one should not venture into such speculations without first grasping the implications and the possibility that your own proofs can be turned against you. We should avoid these topics, which only cause division and accusations.

          16. I wonder then what the primary socio-religious impact of the Fatima prophecy is 100+ years later. Do most people, Catholics and non-Catholics, who believe in the genuineness of the apparition and in the official Catholic interpretation believe that Russia was consecrated and consequently stopped spreading her errors throughout the world? In other words, that the prophecy was fulfilled and Russia is no longer communist? This would align with the mainstream view of Russia post-1990. Or do most Fatima believers now question the consecration, and whether Russia has experienced a Christian revival? The latter view is decidedly less mainstream, and not in line with the general pro-Russia bent of many religious conservatives today. (And as we’ve seen here, some Catholics question the authenticity of several 20th century Popes and Councils of the Church, and even the identity of the older Lucia herself, all lines of thinking that logically impact the authenticity of the consecration. It seems that even the non-mainstream view of the secrets of Fatima has become a highly arcane discussion that somewhat distracts from the more important questions of if and how Russia is still spreading her errors. Just my opinion.)

Two possibilities come to mind. Either the Catholic Church was infiltrated by communists, as CONCERNED has explained, or there is hesitation on the part of Church authorities to put the infallibility of the Catholic Church to such a public test. The first explanation, of course, is not unique to the Catholic Church as there has been a decades long communist campaign to penetrate all major Christian denominations.

          18. We can see that all major Western institutions partake of the communist corruption, and seem incapable of openly combatting communism in its many guises. The explanation for why this has happened may be more shocking than we can imagine.

Spirits have manifested themselves to mankind for as long as we’ve been around, but I think most of them have been demons who inspired pagan cults.

          1. There is an extensive literature on communicating with nonhuman entities going back to Parmenides if not earlier. These entities were never, in this literature, considered to be extraterrestrial.

          2. I should add that Jacques Vallee recently did a video with the title, “Most Controversial UFO Theory.” Vallee says “something is playing with us.” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IlzYxRDCoFA&t=29s

In the book The Myth of Artificial Intelligence by Erik Larson, there is a short discussion of Poe’s Murders in the Rue Morgue, to show the differences between deductive, inductive, and abductive reasoning. This paragraph brought to mind some things Jeff has said about insight and analysis:

Poe begins “The Murders at the Rue Morgue” by ruminating about the nature of thinking. The fictional story of the crime begins first with nonfiction. He searches for the right words. Dupin’s reasoning, he decides, is a triumph of analysis, in contract to formulaic calculation. Calculation is connecting known dots; applying the rules of algebra, say. Analysis is making sense of the dots, making a leap or guess that explains them-and then, given some insight, using calculation to test it. Calculation has its limits: “But it is in matters beyond the limits of mere rule that the skill of the analyst is evinced.” Rule-following isn’t enough, but it is unclear what exactly else is involved. That Poe appreciates this mystery is evident in the declaration he makes at the outset of his story: “The mental features discoursed of as the analytical, are, in themselves, but little susceptible to analysis.”

    1. It’s funny. I was in Charleston last week and visited the site of Poe’s old army posting.

  15. How true do you think is this report? I find that most people pooh pooh it. “Why would China attack its most important customer?” as most people ask me.

    1. This is the infiltration invasion I was told about by a Russian GRU defector. It is not a myth.

I am back to the subject of Solovey, which interests only me I guess, but if it proves to be true, it might influence everybody.
In his videos lately professor Solovey looks very cheerful and energised as the transition of power in Russia is getting closer. He was promised a position in the new government.
But the interesting thing to me is that he finally disclosed who these powerful people are, who want this change. They are those rich and politically influential people, who want Russia to be a forward looking country, they want to stop war and they want sanctions to be lifted and to enjoy their riches in the West.
Let’s imagine it is true and this is not another KGB trick. Would people without strong moral core and with materialistic motivation be strong enough to overpower Russia’s longstanding imperialistic, communist and and purely evil tendencies? Can KGB allow it, and can there be rich and powerful people in Russia, who got to their positions without KGB allowing it? I hope soon we will have some answers.
