Is Russia going to attack NATO? Most of the submarines of Russia’s Northern Fleet have gone to sea. Vladimir Putin, Xi Jinping, and Kim Jong Un will be meeting in Beijing on Wednesday. As a bonus, there will be a Chinese military parade. Russia is warning that Europe may soon be at war with Russia and China. The Russians have been massing troops and supplies in Kaliningrad and Belarus all year, preparing for a “military exercise,” called Zapad 2025, a joint military exercise scheduled for September 12-16.
Since when does a country engaged in a full-scale war have forces to spare for a “military readiness exercise”? It is a curious thing. Did Hitler engage in military exercises when his armies were hard-pressed on other fronts? Does anybody do this?
Dmitry Chernyshov has listed several indicators that Russia is about to attack NATO in the Baltic States. He sees the Zapad 2025 exercise as a repeat of Russia’s Zapad 2022 exercise. This was the exercise that preceded the invasion of Ukraine. Chernyshov sees the (1) Russian naval drills in the Baltic as an indicator. He says that (2) “almost all tanks have disappeared” from the Ukrainian front and suspects they are being readied for use against NATO. Ukrainian sources confirm that not only tanks but other Russian weapons have been used less frequently in recent weeks, as the numbers of these weapon knocked out by Ukrainian forces has declined. (3) Russian railroad and road bridges along the Baltic frontier are being strengthened so they can support heavy armor. (4) Large field hospitals, fuel depots, and ammunition stores are being established in Belarus and Kaliningrad, where civil defense drills have begun. (5) Copying the military organization of World War Two, the Kremlin has re-established military district commands in Moscow and Leningrad (calling the St. Petersburg district the “Leningrad Military District”).
According to Lee Wheelbarger and Johnny Anderson, Russia has been mobilizing troops throughout the summer and air traffic strongly suggests they are moving troops from the Far East. Chernyshov points out that (6) “Conscription is no longer seasonal (spring/autumn) but year-round.” (7) There are also indications that certain Telegram channels are being “massively purged,” with plans “underway to shut down WhatsApp — possibly even Telegram — forcing a switch to domestic messengers.”
If we look at what Lee Wheelbarger and Johnny Anderson have been discovering on satellite maps, much can be added to this picture. The Russian logistical preparation has been intense and longstanding. The resources they are using are too massive to dismiss as an empty threat.
Some days ago the Russians launched a drone attack that appears to have been intended against a Polish ammunition depot. The drone struck a power line and exploded without reaching its target. We know there have been Russian sabotage actions in Germany. Russia is on a war trajectory. If NATO territory is invaded how will President Donald Trump react? Will Article 5 of the Washington Treaty be taken seriously? Will America then declare war on Russia as America is solemnly obligated to do? Will NATO hold fast?
Of course, within the MAGA movement there are people violently opposed to defending America’s allies in Europe. A disintegrated mentality characterizes this disgruntled lot. So many people have bought into Russian propaganda narratives and disinformation.
It does appear that a path toward a larger war has been prepared by Russia, though it is admittedly hard to imagine a war breaking out in the coming days. Nobody is really prepared. We have watched the Russian aggression against Ukraine, and the brutal knocking down of Ukrainian cities for three and a half years. We did not treat this as a warning. We did not make all the preparations we should have. Even now there is very little outward sign of alarm.

Nice to see your comment here. It is frustrating to watch this and wonder if my eyes are playing tricks on me. We have started looking at Russian activity in Venezuela and we have turned over some ugly rocks with creepy crawlies. Stay tuned.

In any case, given the massive and ever bolder Russian intrusions into the Alaska ADIZ as of late (that is, following the Alaska summit), it doesn’t look as if Moscow takes Washington seriously any more. Lavrov already let it know a while ago that NATO will soon be tested. Thus, it is more than probable that they will take the risk and open a second front into the Baltics. If NATO then fails to invoke Article 5, it will be clear for the whole world to see that the Western Alliance is DEAD.

I’ve really lost a lot of respect for Jimmy after this podcast. He excuses every disastrous decision Trump makes because the left was really mean to Trump in his first term. No matter what, MAGA must present a united (cult) front at all times. Loyalty means not speaking out even when Trump is acting in ways that hurt America and further Russia and China’s interests. Because Trump is not a politician, he is the savior and everything coming from his camp is 100% true. But this is not Trump 1.0 anymore. Trump is now using the power of the state to persecute good people like John Bolton for the crime of being outspoken. It may or may not be a coincidence that this happening at the same time that US intelligence staff is being cut by 50%, and just as Russia is on the verge of invading Poland and the Baltics.
As was said in the podcast, a lot of people gravitate toward communism because they were hurt or made outcasts by society. Because they were hurt they feel entitled to take it out on society, and so they join the Communist Revolution. Without meaning to, Jimmy applies a similar type of thinking to Trump, saying that he’s above criticism because he’s fighting back against the forces that persecuted him. The idea that anyone gets a carte blanche for any reason is wrong, no matter who the person is or what was done to them.
Yes, Laura I agree about Jimmy from Brooklyn and his constant defending his fellow New Yorker, D. Trump. But…at the same time, those of us on the same side of good can indeed have disagreements.
But I’ve lost a lot of respect and hope for President Donald Trump II as well. All about “Make America Great Again” and yet he’s in bed with our enemy? Deception seems to be the key word. ### WHY ARE WE TALKING ABOUT THIS?
First off, survival.
Trump’s open invitation to 600,000 potential CCP agents is disastrously suicidal. Looking at the historical record of what just a handful of CCP agents have done in American will help even the most uneducated see why the U.S. administration’s invitation is arguably the most suicidal political move any nation has ever made.
Second, personal.
A recent conversation with an otherwise intelligent associate brought to light the dangerous, perhaps suicidal ignorance that many Americans have about the history and nature of the CCP, especially the clandestine war being waged by Beijing against Americans and our allies.
For this article, let’s call him “Mr. E”.
The fact that the otherwise well educated public figure I was having a chat with defended the U.S. policy saying that Somalians and Mexicans are just as dangerous as CCP Chinese to American security let me know that either the person was an idiot (he isn’t), a CCP tool (I hope he isn’t), or just ignorant (I can perhaps fix that, at least for this readership).
And thus this article.
So, today the question is:
### WAS “Mr. E.” CORRECT IN SAYING SOMALI TERRORISTS AND MEXICAN CARTEL MEMBERS ARE JUST AS DANGEROUS TO THE US AS CCP TOOLS?
The following are just SOME of the recent clandestine attacks the CCP has conducted against the U.S., which include spying, sabotage, political control, information operations, and shaping, etc.
IF the Somali terrorists have done similar to this on a similar scale, then he is right.
IF the Mexican Cartels have done similar to what he is right.
### ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE DICTATES OUTCOME
Let’s look at the MEANS in the MMO check.
The first thing to keep in mind is that the Mexican Cartels and Somali Terrorists are not a single entity. The CCP is. The Mexican Cartels do not claim to “own” and have the means to control every Mexican or Hispanic they want to identify as Mexican. If Mexican political dissidents show up in Thailand, the government of Mexico does not have the power to get them extradited to Mexico. Nor are the Somalis at any level of government or non-government.
The CCP, however, is a single entity and has the largest overseas ethnic radicalization and mobilization program in history. Qiaowu.
It frequently extradites political opponents, conducts illegal rendition operations on foreign soil, and uses political, economic, and threats of violence to manipulate governments across the globe, including the United States. Arguably, since the Clinton administration, when the CCP financially backed his first campaign, it has gone much further in many ways.
All of these and more create a global environment where no “haven” for political opponents and those of a free conscience who wish to leave the asylum that is CCP-occupied Asia (see Meet the Quislings section below under Anthony Blinken for a specific example). This global bullying and monitoring allows ample coercive power over millions of Chinese. Recently, the definition of ethnic Chinese has been expanded by the CCP.
Beijing sees every ethnic Chinese, whether they actually are or not, as a subject of the CCP. Massive programs with billions of dollars directed by the dictator himself, Xi Jinping, are managed by the embassies in every nation, which control tens of thousands of front organizations in education, business, and social industries—millions of people, billions of dollars, singular focus and management.
And the goal? Protect the CCP by manipulating the minds, owning the bodies, and shaping the behavior of the overseas Chinese to influence and eventually control aspects of other nations’ foreign and domestic policy to benefit the CCP. They have been doing it successfully since the 1950s, and have been doing it on a grand scale since their economy was given a shot in the arm by Trillions of U.S. dollars over the last two decades.
Neither the Cartels from Mexico nor the Terrorists from Somalia have anything even close.
Even the legacy programs from the Soviet Union/Russia, inheriting many similar overseas recruiting and shaping programs from the Soviet Union, both on an ethnic and political level, never came close to the monster that Beijing has assembled and is running for the last 70 years. The Nazi overseas programs to mobilize ethnic Germans and some imagined construct called “Aryan” were minuscule and opposed by many overseas Germans themselves.
So, just on the organizational scale, we see the MEANS check block clearly filled in. And on a global scale, with an estimated 40.3 to 50 million overseas “ethnic Chinese” compared to just 2 million Somalis and 38 million Mexicans, the CCP has a lot more clandestine soldiers to utilize globally. In the U.S., the CCP has 5.5 million people, at the low estimate, who are subject to the Qiaowu program, compared to just 170,000 Somalis.
### CLANDESTINE WARFARE. THE BITTER FRUIT OF QIAOWU HAS A LONG HISTORY
The CCP has decades of stealing critical U.S. defense, industrial, and security technology. And in many cases, not being punished for it. At times, the U.S. appears to facilitate the arming of an open adversary to dominate and reduce the United States. In addition, influence and shaping operations have been going on since before the CCP even came into power, aided by the Soviet Union initially, and to some extent by inheriting the lines of Kuomintang Nationalist backdoor influence via the FDR administration in the 1930s.
Let’s look at just a few.
### THE DARK ARTS OUT OF RED CHINA ARE NOTHING NEW
1944 – Larry Wu Tai Chin (Jin Wudai). Was recruited by the CCP Central Social Affairs Department to seek employment in the U.S. government, then an ally of the Nationalist KMT Chinese, to infiltrate, spy, influence, and, if necessary, sabotage American efforts in Asia. This was done while the U.S. fought Japan on “China’s” side. He began working as a Chinese language translator for the U.S. Army Liaison Office in Fuzhou, and began stealing classified documents to give to the CCP.

1945-1949 – Larry Wu Tai Chin started working as a translator for the U.S. Consulate in Shanghai and continued to pass information to the CCP.
1949 – 1950 Larry Wu Tai Chin transferred to the U.S. Consulate in Hong Kong.
1950-1953 – Larry Wu Tai Chin, during the Korean War, began serving as a translator for the State Department, assisting the U.S. Army debriefing CCP Chinese and North Korean POWs. He passed the names of CCP Chinese who wanted to defect to the U.S. to the CCP, and misrepresented and fabricated details to the U.S. Army from his interviews with the POWs. Some estimates state that this set the armistice negotiations by a year, and contributed to various U.S. tactical losses. Potentially thousands of American and allied soldiers died because the U.S. State Department and Army trusted Larry Wu Tai Chin.
1952—Larry Wu Tai Chin began working with the Foreign Broadcast Information Service (FBIS), a division of the CIA, in Okinawa, Japan. He would periodically meet his CCP handlers in Hong Kong.
1961—The FBIS/CIA transferred Larry Wu Tai Chin to California. The CCP assigned him new handlers in Canada.
1962 – Gwo Bao Min moves to the U.S.
1965 – Larry Wu Tai Chin is given U.S. citizenship.
1970 – Larry Wu Tai Chin is promoted to a management position in Arlington, Virginia, including briefings and plans from President Nixon on relations with the CCP. He passed on these to his CCP handlers.
1970 – Gwo Bao Min earns a PhD in aerospace engineering from the University of Michigan.
1975 – Gwo Bao Min began working on nuclear weapons and missile defense at Lawrence Livermore National Labs. Min is from Taiwan, but under the Qiaowu system, and the so-called “One China” policy, is viewed by the CCP and many others as “Chinese” and aligned with the CCP.
1975—Hoong Yee Lee “Peter” moves to the U.S. and is naturalized. Peter was born in CCP-occupied Asia and moved to Taiwan when he was 12.
1976—Hoong Yee Lee worked for Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory on nuclear trigger technology for 8 years.
1979 – Gwo Bao Min begins meeting CCP scientists, and according to various intelligence reports, begins passing classified information.
1980s: Hoong Yee Lee befriends CCP scientist Chen Neng Kuan and establishes a large volume of regular communication until the mid-1990s.
1981—Larry Wu Tai Chin retires and receives a medal from the CIA for distinguished service. The CCP later gives him a medal for the same service. The CCP award after his retirement led the FBI to investigate whether he had been a spy.
In 1981, Gwo Bao Min was stopped at the airport en route to China. He was found to be carrying detailed information on nuclear weapon miniaturization in answer to five specific questions. He resigned from Lawrence Livermore Labs rather than be fired.
1982 – Katrina “Parlor Maid” Leung. The most significant intelligence failure in American History. Katrina was recruited by the FBI and assigned a handler, James Smith. However, she successfully operated on behalf of the CCP, feeding false intelligence to the U.S. government, shaping briefings that were sometimes seen by the President, and manipulating U.S. policy to be “soft” and benefit the CCP. She was also caught stealing U.S. intelligence to give to the CCP’s MSS. She continued in this role until 2002.

1982 – Wen Ho Lee, a Taiwanese American, but viewed as “Chinese” by the CCP Qiaowu program, is caught on a wiretap speaking with “Tiger” Gwo Bao Min, a former aeronautical engineer at Lawrence Livermore Labs who was under investigation at the time for theft of classified U.S. nuclear weapons tech for the CCP. Lee offered to help identify the patriots who had reported Gwo to the authorities. From 1982 to 1984, Lee was investigated by the FBI’s foreign CI division. The FBI halted the investigation without charges.
1985 – Larry Wu Tai Chin is confirmed to have been a spy when Yu Qiangsheng, a Chinese Intelligence officer, defected to the U.S. and confirmed that Larry was a spy by bringing Larry Wu Tai Chin’s file for the FBI to review. Chin later confessed and killed himself in prison.
1985 – Hoong Yee Lee. On January 9, 1985, Hoong met PRC scientist Chen Nengkuan in Beijing and disclosed classified details on hohlraums (devices for simulating nuclear detonations in ICF). On January 10, 1985, I briefed a group of PRC scientists, including Yu Min, for two hours, drawing diagrams and discussing U.S. nuclear testing issues and a classified 1982 document.
1988 – Wen Ho Lee meets with a key CCP nuclear physicist.
1994 – Wen Ho Lee participates in a 1994 delegation meeting.
In the 1980s and 1990s, Gwo Bao Min opened a trading company and continued to travel back and forth to CCP-occupied Asia.
1990 Gwo Bao Min “accidentally” runs into Bill Cleveland in a remote area of China near the North Korean border. Bill Cleveland had been the agent investigating Gwo of espionage. Later, Cleveland would listen to a classified phone intercept where Katrina Leung gave information to the CCP MSS on Cleveland’s U.S. State Department delegation visit to China.
1990 – Chinese spymaster Yu Zenghe attends Ronald Montaperto’s wedding.
1991 – FBI begins an inquiry into Hoong Yee Lee as a potential security risk.
1995 – Notra Trulock uncovers evidence of Chinese agents infiltrating Los Alamos and other critical research labs and stealing U.S. nuclear secrets.
1996—Evidence linking Wen Ho Lee to the theft of W-88 Nuclear Warhead secrets was discovered in January as part of the Department of Energy’s “Kindred Spirit” investigation into CCP espionage. Lee is one of 32 individuals, 12 priority threats, to be identified.
1997 – Hoong Yee Lee “vacationed” in CCP-occupied Asia as a guest of the CCP Institute of Applied Physics and Computational Mathematics. While there, he briefed the CCP scientists on the undersea detection of submarines using microwave technology. Lee did not report his actions and attempted to cover them up upon return to the U.S. when confronted by FBI agents. Lee later admitted he lied, but continued to obfuscate specific facts, like who paid for the trip. After the interview, he messaged a contact in CCP-occupied Asia, begging for forged travel receipts to provide “proof” of his lies to the FBI.
1998 – Hoong Yee Lee accepts a plea bargain for community service and a $20K fine.
2002—Mylene Chan, who infiltrated the Federal Trade Commission, was discovered to have stolen highly sensitive information from leading U.S. tech companies that dealt in critical defense technology and provided it to the MSS in Shanghai, China. The information gave the CCP a critical advantage in developing and deploying tech to edge out U.S. defense companies.
2010-2012 – U.S. intelligence allies in CCP-occupied Asia are betrayed by a CCP double agent in the U.S., and 18-20 or more were murdered.

Lest it be thought that the MSS and the Qiaowu program radicalizing and mobilizing “overseas Chinese” are the only villains in this history, it should be noted that many Americans were turned by the New Nazis of Asia and supported the “Butchers in Beijing.”…”
I agree with everything except this.

Russia is even better than China in terms of having global reach and a vast army of human resources. Unlike China, Russia doesn’t rely mostly on ethnic Russians and their messaging/recruiting operations easily interweave across ethnic, national, religious and political lines. The Chinese are a visible minority and so easily identifiable, but Russia’s pool of actual and potential dupes/recruits/agents is less easily identifiable and so more dangerous and insidious. People like Tucker Carlson, Alex Jones, etc are just the tip of the Russian iceberg.
People have to finally realize that there was no collapse of communism and that the KGB set up was intended to put the western countries, US included, to sleep and to expedite more vigorously their espionage subversive ops in the US, and EU etc., using the same espionage assets the KGB/GRU were using before, because none of these spy networks were terminated nor compromised nor did the KGB offer the data to the western intel agencies, as to prove that the “collapse of communism” was real…
Moreover, the leaders of the now NATO member countries, the “formerly” communist countries must all be regarded under Moscow orders and command, and so when there is any kind of substantial conflict, or Moscow attacks, the stage is already set for the capitulation and Red Army invasion and occupation.
Moreover, the ONLY opposition that Moscow communist forces will encounter, will be the local private citizens, NOT the government military forces, of these NATO member countries…as the orders to resist and fight will most likely not be given, and although many will no doubt be killed, including the civilian population, as that the will to resist the communists is broken, these NATO governments will back off, and of course Trump with his anti-NATO policies now will back off himself, and this is why such timing exists, including the Venezuela and Mexican cartels preps….Europe is being sacrificed, by such Moscow assets, and it is evidently very much coordinated from the Kremlin…that’s why Putin was meeting Trump in Alaska, and for the last minute details or war policies. Trump is their man, no doubt.

I’m sorry, but that’s a ridiculous statement. If all the former East Bloc countries are completely under Moscow’s control, why aren’t they acting like Orban’s Hungary and being openly pro-Russia? (And to be fair, even Orban is not all-powerful. In the recent Romanian election, ethnic Hungarians both in Transylvania and Hungary proper voted overwhelmingly against Orban’s preferred pro-Russia candidate.) If they all walked out of NATO and resurrected the Warsaw Pact now, that would be almost an effective blow to Europe’s morale as the US refusing to honor Article 5. So why not do that? Because Moscow does not fully control every government, even though it has agents and assets everywhere. You forget that even after the Maidan Revolution there were still plenty of Russian agents burrowed in Ukraine’s government. It was thanks to these collaborators that the Russian army rolled through southern Ukraine so quickly, but the power of these people was not enough to take over the whole country or even just Kyiv. The Ukrainian people wanted to resist the invasion, and Zelensky’s government would not have remained in power if he had just rolled over for Russia. People and governments behave differently when they are forced to fight for their survival, and this is usually the time when Moscow’s fairweather friends tend to run away (see Yanukovich).
I agree with Laura. We have to examine political conditions in each of the former East Bloc countries. We should not paint with a broad brush. Each one is a is a special case. Not always easy to understand.
You are entitled to your opinion but Ukraine back then was the staging ground, test and also preparatory period for the Moscow strategy, evidently that is what it comes to, but now if or rather when the Red Army begins to role west, into Poland, that is entirely different situation and they will have to do a decisive attack instead, which means that if they had against them honest God loving Catholic people, as Poland used to be (and the Russian Bolsheviks after WW1 were heavily defeated when they attempted to attack Poland back then) Polish Catholics would have been victorious, but that is not the case now because of the damage done by communists in that and any other “formerly” communist country of Eastern Europe….so all it will take is ONE Russian tactical nuke and the invasion will be decided…or even if they don’t use nuclear force, Russians are ready and they hate the Polish people and want nothing more than to take over and beat them…and make them into slaves once again.
And so they need people as Tusk and him like, and BTW, there is still substantial number of communist population there, so they still want to have the victory of communism and Mother Russia is the tool and leader for that…they are fanatics, nothing less.
Your point is an honest one, but it covers a different situation and different strategy of Moscow, and Ukraine they could have attacked this way and it serves them as a bait and an opening door to Europe, because Ukraine is not a NATO country, but when they attack Poland they will have to make it a decisive attack, not what they have done so far in Ukraine…and they know this point very well, they are not stupid, just communist fanatics and criminals.

I didn’t WANT to come to this conclusion, but it’s the only one left available to me after all these years and all this research: The fact that the Russians LOOK like Europeans seems to make their active measures more palpable to Europeans and their descendants. Even though the active measures are literally poison to a society, the instinct to identify the Russians as “one of us” due to their race makes them infinitely more dangerous to Europeans and their descendants.
The Chinese, on the other hand, are, as you mentioned, far more restricted in what they can do to mobilize people outside of “their tribe” than the Russians are. Couldn’t they just do what Japan did in the early 40s and appeal to anti-Western sentiment in Asia? Sure, they could TRY, but the fact that Western powers generally don’t physically control Asia any longer deflates this sentiment a lot.
Furthermore, this strategy wouldn’t leave them a lot of room to maneuver due to the historical dynamics of the region and their neighbors: Maybe, MAYBE they could get (crypto-communist) Mongolia, but there isn’t a real need. Taiwan? Only through a generations-long campaign of subversion (or brute force), and that’s a big maybe as well. Japan? Ha! That’s a good one! Even their “brotherly” neighbors like India and Vietnam, who have age-old histories of their own, are a problem: If their compromised politicians get TOO close to Beijing, their populace will probably chase them down and lynch them in the streets. That likely goes tenfold for India, who have a good swath of territory still occupied by the Chinese.
Just some points related to the flights from/to Kaliningrad. I found out in the news of the Kaliningrad Airport that in 2021 more than 11.400k flights have been operated. This makes an average of 40-43 flights per day. If we compare it to the actual flights (for instance Flightradar24 and others) we see an average of 62-63. Another interesting point regards the arrivals from Sharm in Egypt. These flights (according Flightradar24) are operated by Air Cairo, but surprise if you look on their website there are no options from or to Kaliningrad.
Interesting back and forth I’ve had with another subscriber to Sam Faddis’ (AND Magazine) Substack and his latest post “The War Against Tulsi” . I’m disappointed with Mr. Faddis as he seems to be another Intel person who does not see Russia as a threat. His focus always seems to be solely with China.
This individual/subscriber’s comments echo so many others here in America, specifically the Republican faithful, MAGA cult followers, conservatives, who are genuinely uninformed, or simply refuse to believe that Communist agents have infiltrated the GOP and are working within our own government (as do the Democrats already) and that communism via the Russians and Chinese is boldly on the move today in 2025. Zapad 2025 is basically unknown to most of these folks, just as the buildup along NATO borders over the past several months. Just a few gems, quotes from this individual that I’ll share here. It really does illustrate how clueless our country is as to the threat(s) we face and will be engaged against very soon.

The writing is on the wall. It has been strongly so since 2022 for consumption of the general public who have been in a deep perestroika dream state. It appears from what I read online that many are waking up, though its hard to know if it is enough at this late hour.
Jeff says war is hard to imagine right now and I agree, but what better time would there be to attack NATO? The window of opportunity narrows by the day as NATO nations have been quite publicly coming to the realization of what Russia’s goals are.
The enemy runs out of time and perhaps his preparations are hurried. Maybe, as he is prone to, he will stumble and fall in the Baltics as he has in Ukraine. One can only hope.
Jeff, Could it be that America will be attacked first and not the Baltic states? There is a huge build up in Cuba and South America, Mexico is on the side of Russia and China. The already invasion of CCP illegals in this country. So, could the build up in Russia and Belarus be defensive to stop NATO countries after Russia participates in an attack on the U.S. Would the NATO European countries help defend America? What better president to attack America under than Trump.

I would say that a third option is most likely–namely that both Europe and the U.S. are attacked at the same time. That way neither could turn to help the other.
A couple of essays ago, I asked if Putin and Xi were cornered rats? What I see now is that both countries are on the ropes.
Ukraine has taken out about a quarter of Soviet oil refining and shipping. However, it appears that the supplies, including oil, cached just east of NATO are sufficient to support an invasion. Even the arms industry is failing. Opposition to Putin’s war is growing. There are reports that even the oligarchs, those who are left, are starting to turn against Putin. They’re in it for the graft, but if the economy completely tanks, will there be any more graft? Could Putin survive a complete collapse of the economy?
Is Xi in much better a position? His economy is in free fall. There are riots in the streets against Xi and the CCP. Countries that have “benefited” from the Belt and Road initiative are watching their tofu-dreg infrastructure crumble before their eyes, while the CCP demands payment. Citizens in many of those countries are now rioting against their Chinese colonizers. Regime change with Chinese characteristics has historically not been that comfortable for the outgoing regime. Therefore, Xi and the CCP are desperately hanging on.
My read on the situation is that the cornered rats will move sooner rather than later.
What I’ve seen is that it will be a nuclear war. How will Putin justify starting it? The loss of Crimea? Dombas? Does Xi need any justification?
As for Trump, did you see that the president of Portugal has outed him as a KGB asset?

Actually, yes, that would make sense, at least to me. In his “secret speech,” Chi Haotian basically said if they defeated the USA, the rest of Asia would gladly submit to the CCP, either because they want to be on the winning side or that they would have no other option.
All the evidence points to the next attack being against the Baltics and Poland. Russian propaganda is a good indication of what direction the Kremlin is heading in, and in the last few months it’s been non-stop demonizing of the three former Soviet republics, accusing them of Nazi-like persecution of Russian speaking minorities. Russian media has been portraying Estonia’s defensive build-up as proof of a pre-emptive attack being planned by NATO. Then taking into account the aggressive sabotage operations against the Baltics and Poland, the attempted drone strike on the Polish weapon depot and the heavy buildup along the Belarus border… it looks obvious. There’s no way that Russia’s build-up can be defensive since all the bunkers (including deep underground nuclear bunkers), airplane runways, helicopter pads, radar and anti-air defenses, medical facilities, huge fuel depots, huge stockpiles of military trucks and APC’s lined up along the border – these are all things that point to a major air and ground attack against Lithuania and Poland, and against major NATO airfields in the east. NATO would be prevented from responding to the attack because of nuclear threats, and also because of the heavy presence of Russian radar and air defense systems in Belarus which would nullify NATO’s air superiority. It’s an attack that NATO is not supposed to defend against, so that the only option becomes to roll over and give Russia what it wants.
In light of that, the tensions with Venezuela and its Latin American allies seem small by comparison. Venezuela may claim to have mobilized 4.5 million men, but how could they have done it so quickly and how will they get within shooting distance of the US? Whatever Trump does it will be short a operation with no American boots on the ground, like the 2017 Syria strike or the 2025 Iran strike. The whole thing might be over before Russia’s attack on eastern Europe even begins. But the actual duration of kinetic conflict in the western hemisphere doesn’t matter, the fact that the US had to use military force against Venezuela or the drug cartels is enough to cement South America as a vital American interest, more important to America’s security than Europe and NATO. Going by Trump’s military record, he very much wants to avoid a long-drawn out conflict with American soldiers on the ground like in Iraq, Afghanistan or Vietnam. This will be another reason given why the US can’t honor its commitment to defend Europe, along with the need to avoid a nuclear conflict with Russia. Maybe the recent Russian violations of Alaskan airspace are a subtle warning, “If you don’t want to get into a war with us, then stay out of Europe.”
The EU socialists have probably figured it out by now about Trump and that he will not go anywhere beyond trying to built for himself (again) the name of a peacemaker, even though the EU people already understand that he did sabotage Ukraine and does it now by attempting to broker in fact the loss of their sovereignty (in some way) and to give up the fight against Russia by potentially having to agree to give up their sovereign Ukrainian territory to the Russian KGB criminals….and so the European NATO allies see this and see a pattern about Trump, and that’s why the Portuguese president said what he said about Trump being a KGB asset…they all have their sources and many of these people are also in the KGB controlled camp…unfortunately Moscow controls both ends of the situation this way.
They can even cripple one country after another, if they had the certitude that NATO will not go any further with the article 5 (and so far that looks that way) or at least try to do so, by attacking Poland and perhaps the Baltics and at the same time using the nuclear blackmail to hold NATO is sort of standstill, so that the plan to demoralize and neutralize the whole NATO alliance into submission is the obvious outcome.
If Moscow truly wanted to cause more harm, they would start more such crippling conflicts and force the citizens of these countries to give up their will to resist and into a serious poverty, struggle for their bare lives and daily survival, one NATO target after another – if nothing substantial will be done to counter (militarily) this Moscow’s aggression (communist attack)…
It is just a speculation, but to bring people everywhere into this communist slavery, you need to force them into hunger and danger for their lives, by such means as active warfare against civilians as Moscow now does against Ukraine. It is sort of psychological warfare also, because since they have their KGB assets in these EU countries (most of them are hardened socialists), then Moscow doesn’t have to worry about any significant counter-attack from NATO…and this where Trump’s “peacemaking” comes in….
The Venezuelan militia are almost worthless militarily. But they are good for maintaining control of the cities and towns. Russia does appear to be preparing something like a seizure of the Suwalki Gap. If they do anything this may be what it’s about.
I think the main thing we need to be alert for on U.S. soil this month, is a widespread, 10/7 attack on American soil in order to plunge us into turmoil while the Russia/China bloc makes major moves on the globe.

Be alert. Stay strapped if you carry. Avoid the soft target areas that you can. Think about the details of the 10/7/23 birthday gift to Putin via the Islamic surrogates.

It’s interesting to note that Trump appears poised to launch a major attack on Venezuela, though perhaps not a fullscale invasion since only 4,500 troops are involved. Our forces will be fully in position, I’ve heard, within the next 2 to 3 days. Venezuela has already suffered a major blackout, though maybe that’s just a coincidence since such countries are always basically a Micky Mouse operation when it comes to basic infrastructure. It almost feels like coordination: Trump attacks Venezuela, and while we’re dealing with that, Russia finally strikes.
Also, since I am a firm believer in woo woo of all kinds, and it is generally difficult to embarrass me (after a lifetime of embarrassing acts I have become immune), and because I thought it would be fun, I consulted the I-Ching as to whether Putin would invade the Baltics in September. Incredibly, if my interpretation is not too biased, I interpret it as a “yes”, that there would be immediate success, that Russia would obtain new allies or allies would come to support him, followed by a reversal of fortune due to the inauspiciousness of doing this in September. A direct reference to our question of whether he’ll attack in September!
My results were Hexagram 40, Lines 1 and 4, transforming into Hexagram 19.
Hexagram 40, the image of thunder over water, indicating successful and powerful action and the breaking of strong tension or release from unsustainable burden. Line 4 states, “Deliver yourself from your great toe, then the companion comes, and him you can trust.” Others say it as “Untangle your toe from the hemlock, friends will come.” The meaning being to cut yourself free from burden or of malign influences.
Hexagram 19 at first glance indicates successful renewal/deliverance from the unsustainable burden, but the warning states:
“At the arrival of the eighth moon, beware of challenges. You will enjoy an enduring period of success, but around the eighth lunar month to come, adversity, mischance, and mishaps.” Wen, Benebell. I Ching, the Oracle (p. 485). North Atlantic Books. Kindle Edition.
Wilhelm Baynes translates it as (going by memory) advancement and success, but when “the 8th month comes, misfortune.”
The 8th Lunar Month for the Chinese is late August to September 23rd.
The commentaries further state that the advancement and success that is enjoyed at the beginning is now in reversal. Or, in our context, it could also mean that it is misfortune and reversal from the start, because we are already in the 8th Lunar Month. Or it could also mean that we (since I was doing the reading) are the ones who are going to suffer misfortune.
We’ll see if the I-Ching holds up, for good or for ill.
May I throw in here my two cents’ worth from the perspective of Western astrology: We now have a conjunction of Saturn and Neptune around 0°/1° Aries on the firmament, which occurs roughly every 36 years. This conjunction (including the other aspects between Saturn and Neptune) seems to be closely connected to the Soviet project of world revolution. The planetary pair describes well the gruesomeness, demonic ghastliness and agony under communism.
First, in the early 20th century, the two planets met at 4°45′ Leo on Aug. 1, 1917 (the year of the October Revolution); the next conjunction happened at 22°46′ Libra on Nov. 21, 1952 (followed by 2 more conjunctions in May and July of 1953; Putin was born approx. in this period); the next conjunction was at 11°55′ Capricorn on March 3, 1989 (followed by two more conjunctions on June 24, 1989 and on Nov. 13, 1989, the latter one taking us right to the fall of the Berlin Wall). Now, 36 years later still, we have reached this new conjunction of Saturn and Neptune. The first contact, inexact by 13 arc minutes, happened this year in mid July at ca. 1°55’/2°08′ Aries, still being effective now. The only exact conjunction will then be on Feb. 20, 2026 at 0°45′ Aries.
What makes this conjunction, as of now, so particularly powerful is the fact that it is currently symmetrically flanked, in 60° sextile aspects, by both planets of revolution, Uranus and Pluto, which now stand at 1° Gemini (Ur) and 1° Aquarius (Pl), respectively. This was even extended into a “kite” constellation (i.e., a Grand Trine plus a fourth position in opposition to one of the other three), with Mars at 1° Libra, during the fullmoon of August 9 this year, which preceded the fatal Alaska summit by six days. (Curiously, it had been on that same day of August 9, only 26 years ago (Aug. 9, 1999), when Putin fully stepped into the international limelight by getting appointed to the position of First Prime Minister under Pres. Yeltsin, which clearly paved the way for him to succeed Yeltsin as President.
So, the current constellation couldn’t be more revolutionary. And Saturn/Neptune in Aries are now serving, it seems, as the diabolical (always deceiful, of course) battering ram that is going to finish off what has still been left of the old order of things.
Russian leadership also follows astrology. All these planetary moves can be a sign for them to act.
The funny thing is that by a certain technique WWIII seems to have already begun way back on 9/11, 2001 – which makes sense, doesn’t it?

You asked about astrological books. I now thought about it for a while. Here are my recommendations:
First, in general, make sure you stay away from authors too heavily immersed in Theosophy/Anthroposophy/the New Age (although that “stream of thought” is almost omnipresent in astrology, which shouldn’t be the case). Also, I would stay away from astrologers with a too one-sided background in psychology (not to mention Freudian psychoanalysis). Then, I would warn against overestimating books that give, cookbook-style, endless lists of specific horoscope elements or constellations such as “planets in signs”, “planets in houses”, this planet in this or that aspect (angle) with this or that other planet etc. These individual descriptions can be useful to a degree, but tend to keep one from developing an integrated way of looking at and understanding horoscopes. Also, there is the vast array of various astrological techniques (used for so-called prognosis). Of course, the basics must be learned in any case. And it all takes time. It is a totally new way of looking at things and perceiving/interpreting the universe. And, needless to say: Astrology shouldn’t be taken as an ersatz-religion or doctrine of salvation!
Also, I would rather give you names of astrological authors rather than specific book titles, because I think it would be useful to first learn about these individuals one by one (which is easy nowadays due to our wonderful internet; please, google each of these authors and read their biographies on the various online encyclopedias).
– Nikolaus von Sementowsky-Kurilo (1901 – 1979). A Ukrainian-born German aristocrat, who left Russia in 1920 and later left Germany in 1933 (!). His books might only exist in German and Italian. (The German website “Astro Wiki” has a good portrait on him.)
– Frédéric Lionel (1908 – 1999). A French author. The German website SpiritWiki discusses him at length.
– Dane Rudhyar (1895 – 1985). American. Philosophically a somewhat problematic author, but nevertheless a brilliant astrologer. His books are of course available in English.
– Robert Hand (* 1942). American. A very good astrologer as well!
– Herbert Freiherr von Kloeckler (1896 – 1950). German. THE astrology author in the German-speaking sphere (when it comes to the basics). No idea whether his work (“Kursus der Astrologie” in 3 volumes) exists as an English edition.
– Oskar Adler (1875 – 1955). Austrian. The Testament of Astrology. 3 volumes.
– Karl Brandler-Pracht (1864 – 1939). Austrian (and clearly an occultist).
– Wilhelm Knappich (1880 – 1970). Austrian. His books are almost certainly not available in English.
Also, I would not begin by looking at charts or by purchasing ephemerides or astrology computer programmes straight away. One should rather take oneself the time to read and learn the general basics first, meaning the symbolism of the planets, of the zodiacal signs, the houses, the aspects etc. Eventually the day will come when one is ready for getting into chart calculations and all the rest of it.

I still vividly remember how I was staying, when I was 20, whole nights at the apartment of a friend, a lady (no love and romance at all) who was attending the same weekly astrology course as I, and we were sometimes discussing things right until dawn, surrounded by mountains of horoscope drawings. It was quite a separate world from what I had otherwise in common with my regular friends. Very separate!

The only question remaining in my mind regarding the war in Ukraine is, were the Russians really prevented from advancing beyond eastern Ukraine early in the war, or did they always intend to slow-walk the war? There were several strategic advantages to limiting the war’s scope: First, keeping the fighting closer to Russia’s border allowed for better observation of US/NATO tactics from their own territory. Second, Russia’s apparent lack of forward progress delayed Europe’s war preparations by several years. Third, Russia’s disinformation campaign went into overdrive when it came to Ukraine’s “Nazi” Azov Brigade. This focus effectively turned half of the Republican Party against Ukraine (and by extension, all of Europe and NATO). Trump can now conceivably ignore Article 5 when the Baltics are invaded. Was all of this Russia’s objective from the beginning?
And is Russia only planning to attack Europe now because their economy is in shambles and they’re running out of fuel? Or was this timeline always part of the plan?
If Ukraine could carry out an Operation Spiderweb II against Russia’s oil refineries, they might be able to delay the invasion of the Baltics. I hope something like this is being planned.
Jeff, I do have several questions for you that I’d like to hear your thoughts on, please (most of the ones above were more rhetorical):
Trump is openly threatening Maduro, has doubled the reward for his capture, has sent warships to Venezuela’s coast, etc. In response, Maduro recently mobilized 4.5 million militiamen. Several Latin American leaders have also recently made statements supporting Maduro. Trump is additionally planning unilateral actions against the cartels in Mexico by US forces, a move that could unite the Mexican military, the cartels, and all of Mexico against the United States.
Does it appear to you that Trump is deliberately trying to provoke some sort of an insurgency war at the southern border, timed to coincide with Russia’s invasion of Europe (and possibly China’s blockade of Taiwan, North Korea’s takeover of South Korea, etc.)? A conflict at the border could potentially serve as Trump’s justification for failing to honor Article 5 of the NATO treaty. Second, do you anticipate that communist-aligned governments across Latin America will send militiamen or troops to embed with the cartels at the US border?

It is very hard to predict what will happen and how exactly it will play out, but that the Red Army has built the numbers for their NATO attack is evident…and so that means that other options are open as well simultaneously, so that the US military and NATO cannot defend itself on all fronts, which is the obvious objective – and then the ever possible nuclear blackmail and even tactical nuclear attack, which Moscow would never hesitate to execute.

It is simple to recognize it – they defend Russia, they defend pro-Russian policies, they don’t make mistakes in their disseminating the pro-Russian propaganda, when Trump promotes it, sometime they even criticize him, to create their own but still fraudulent deceptive “credibility” – and yes, they must always sound “conservative” – whatever that means today exactly, because the truth is not conservative, the truth is truth and nothing else but the truth and somehow these pretenders don’t care when the truth is contrary to what they profess and promote…and so this is how you will recognize them.

The basic dishonesty and wriggle factor in Jones’s reply to Cliff makes me uneasy. This is a guy who defended Putin’s invasion of Georgia in 2008. And the phrase “endless wars” is something you hear on the left. It is rather curious. It’s another way of saying we should not be defending other countries or holding the line against the socialist camp. Of course, if we do not hold the line against the socialist camp we will find ourselves isolated or attacked by a world that has become socialist. In that event, our own socialist government will arrange our surrender.

My first reaction is that this is a nothingburger announcement to fill up news headlines. Russia will never accept the idea of Western troops in Ukraine, private or otherwise. But if Russia attacks Poland and the Baltics and gets the West to give up on Ukraine, that puts the idea of American troops there in a very different context. I am not sure it is easy to get people to see reality. I have decades of experienced trying.
The one thing about this is when Trump sort of suppressed the federal Dept. of Education he stated that the education should be left to the states – which again doesn’t help because it still remains in the hands of the government, which must never be allowed to educate because there is no guarantee that the education will be, become or remain protected from political and atheistic subversion – but that end has already been achieved all over the world, and this is the main weapon of the communists, communist indoctrination of the youth, and so no matter how this is exactly analyzed, the indoctrination continues and at a very young age, which is the exact objective, because then the contrary anti-communist education is terminated, except when the homeschooling process takes place….involving truly religious parents….(setting aside the cases of the perversions of religion as certain sects espouse and hold). And yes, it is true that most of the people don’t see it this way, including Europe where the governments are enforcing this and if the parents don’t send their children to the public schools, they get arrested, children removed from the parents and so people don’t even try, with very few exceptions.
Of course the Canon Law forbids this to be done (the 1917 Code) under the pain of excommunication, and so it is a truly religious persecution and nothing less. And some of the communist run states in the US, Canada etc. already do the same thing, persecute the parents, or if the parties separate, the atheistic and secretly communist run court system grants the custody of the Catholic children to the non-Catholic party, so that the Catholic education is terminated…

According to Solovey this method was used in Yellow jacket protests in France, to make protesters more violent. Strategic Objective: Not territorial conquest per se, but using a bold escalation to pressure NATO into forcing Ukraine into a ceasefire on Russia’s terms — a “de-escalation through escalation” strategy.
That’s fascinating. Jeff sometimes floated the idea that Russia’s build-up along the Polish and Lithuanian borders is really aimed at encircling Ukraine and threatening the West into cutting off support. If Russia seizes the Suwalki Gap and NATO fails to invoke Article 5, it’s “Either you give us Ukraine, or we take over all the Baltics and push into Poland.” Of course Russia will do the last part anyway after consolidating its hold on Ukraine, since NATO will have effectively declared itself dead. The judge said Bolton “likely” revealed classified information. “Likely” is not proof, but a supposition that requires a deeper inquiry. The government can make the most innocuous things into important secrets when a president wants to suppress a book. The is technically secret, one might say, and you cannot publish it; but those NDA’s do not give the government the right to abuse the process to muzzle a patriotic person from sharing very important insights. The judge was shown what the government claimed was true. He heard no counter argument from Bolton because Bolton left the process realizing Trump was never going to allow the book to be published. He explained what kind of bureaucratic nonsense they kept putting him through to delay the book. He had to change the wording of hundreds of sentences when none of these changes had anything to do with national security. This threatened to become a never-ending merry-go-round.
We must remember that only Trump’s DOJ is pursuing Bolton on this. My suspicion is that Trump was indeed trying to use the book oversight process to suppress Bolton’s account of what happened. I read Bolton’s book and believe it contains important assessments of Trump’s character and leadership ability. My judgment could be wrong on this, but I tend to think Bolton is not some criminal clown who suddenly scammed the country by worming his way into the Oval Office as National Security Advisor. He served two previous presidents and accomplished very important things nobody else had the courage to attempt, like persuading George W. Bush to exit the ABM Treaty. He did things that earned him nothing personally (except scorn from the left) which helped the country greatly.
Furthermore, John Bolton has not been found guilty of revealing national security secrets. While he has been the subject of multiple federal investigations regarding his handling of classified information, no criminal charges have been filed or proven in court.

If the Russian & Chinese militaries have been there covertly for decades, what have they been up to that whole time? I bet there might be a few interesting things to behold via satellite view.
There’s a guy I see maybe once every two to three months, who spends most of his time doing business in Mexico. He reports seeing compounds, similar to U.S. frontier forts from the 1800s, full of Chinese troops. He reports seeing troops from other countries as well, including from Africa. I wonder if there are satellite photographs that could verify his claims.

I am not disputing doctrine with you. I am disputing your sense of history and Providence. You had, indeed, suggested that Catholic countries could be invincible if they were true to their faith. This is not how the history of Catholic warfare reads. Think of the Armada and how it was destroyed. I believe Philip II of Spain was extremely devout. In this world anyone can be killed or destroyed at any time. It rains on the just and the unjust alike.
We must never presume to know what God intends. The idea that believers are militarily invincible is a toxic idea. God makes us no such promise, that we may relax our defenses in the belief that angels will always come and rescue us. This is not faith. This is irresponsibility in disguise.
You must never presume of His help, but then you hope for it when you belong to Him and ask for it in prayer, provided all else is right in your regard towards God, but when people are separated from Him by sin and seek not their amendment, conversion and to be part of His true Church, then God will not hear their prayers and will not help them. You conclusion comes from the lack of understanding of this a very important theological point, and of course nobody suggests something like the heresy of Quietism, which sprang up in France in the 17th or 18th century, that was condemned by the Church, but that Faith without works is dead, that is part of the Holy Scripture (Epistle of St. James), and so the works to cooperate with the Divine grace are necessary, for otherwise God will not help that soul to do anything in that regard and leave the soul to his/her own misery.
You have clearly misunderstood this point of doctrine Mr. Nyquist, because nobody said that the believers are invincible, that term was not used at all (as that would be a sin of presumption then), but that the hope and faith in God’s grace and Divine help, in such times, and the true Catholic fighting spirit are the proof of God’s favor and His necessary aid.
Just realized one think about your point Mr. Nyquist, which normally a Catholic person doesn’t grasp – when a Catholic speaks about Faith, it comprises 3 things together – a belief, profession and the state of the soul, which means the supernatural protection of the Catholic soul being in the state of sanctifying grace, through the use of the true Sacraments of the Church, the Sacrament of Penance – and so in case of Poland back then and in fact the whole of then still truly Catholic Europe, the state of their firm practice of the Catholic Faith was already deteriorating to either sort of indifferentism – or at least to apathy in some way, which are both horrible and sinful vices condemned by the Church (Pius IX, Syllabus of Errors, 1860s AD).

Yes, it’s extremely important because it is so underreported. The Holy War on Ukraine and the West came out in a 2024 declaration by ROC. I interviewed Colby Barrett, the producer of A Faith Under Siege, and he told me the Russians have beaten severely dozens of pastors and killed 49 including torturing 2 ROC priests in Ukraine. The documentary is very conservative in its estimates of damage and destruction of churches…600 plus. 1000 other churches have been “repurposed,” reminiscent of Lenin’s actions in 1920s. As it happens, I did a second reading on the I-Ching. The I-Ching, as I was using it (there are other methods), does not seem well suited for timing, but I asked for a specific timeline of when the invasion will occur in September.
The interpretation does not follow the ordinary rules, but I was inspired by an incident in Chinese history where a famous I-Ching expert was challenged to identify a small item that had been hidden in a room. After accurately identifying the item, the expert explained his thought process: The Hexagram was related to the element of metal, leading him to believe it was a metal object. Next, the Hexagram (or the transformed Hexagram) was the Hexagram “Biting Through,” which has the image of a mouth biting off a nose! It was associated with the head, specifically the lower part of the face, and with the color black. From this he accurately concluded the hidden item was… a pair of tweezers, used for plucking black hair!
I received Hexagram 38 (Opposition, Diverging interests, Alienation), which had three changing lines, which I interpret as being three events that must occur before the war: (1) An attempt at unifying something by force, though probably not related to a martial event since that comes later in the reading (perhaps a demand), (2) “Meeting one’s Lord in an alley,” (hidden/behind the scenes talks) (3) viewing even loved ones as demons, or as pigs covered in dirt (mutual hate/paranoia/grey terror?). The commentaries speak of seeing an enemy not as a human being, but as a monster. Demonization.
The transforming Hexagram, 16, at first glance seems not bad, but has to do with enthusiasm and movement carrying everything beneath it in its momentum (like a general leading an army), and has the following Judgment:
