Diana West latest book, The Red Thread, teaches us to swim in the details instead of drowning in the lies. Before describing Diana’s details, it is useful to establish the context in which her work appears.
In terms of the “big picture,” an ideological war is taking place throughout society, on every level, across every discipline. In the old Soviet Union they used to say “we live in the era of the transition between capitalism and socialism.” It was also billed as a transition between belief in God and a belief in the power of man.
This ideological war can also be characterized as a war between traditional values and “opposite” values (that is, anti-values). It is a war against motherhood waged on behalf of feminism. It is a war against the norms of heterosexuality waged on behalf of homosexuality. It is a war against (a predominantly white) European culture waged on behalf of an imaginary global citizenry (predominantly “brown,” or non-European).
Because this ideological war involves demagogic and rhetorical constructions of the socialist left, and because it relies on serial swindles like promising liberation to the “victims” of an oppressive white male heterosexual regime, the demagogues and rhetoricians must produce a steady stream of lies. In the first instance they produce lies because ideology always involves a falsification of reality. In the second instance, because lies offer a ready shortcut in the game of consolidating political power.
Enter Diana West’s Red Thread
According to Frank Gaffney, in his introduction to Diana’s book, the details she presents are essential “if we are to understand and effectively confront the forces of globalist tyranny.” These are the same forces elsewhere described as “the deep state” or “the swamp.” In the old Soviet literature the correct term was “the Socialist Camp” (confused by socialist acolytes with “the camp of the saints.”)
Diana’s book exposes an ongoing attempt by “the camp of socialism” to delegitimize President Trump. She presents details on the background of key players, and of key instigators, in the Trump/Russia collusion myth. She shows that these people are socialists; that an “ideological driver” is behind the collusion myth; and that today’s most dangerous socialists do not wear the socialist label. Instead, they follow Moscow’s example.
The “socialist camp” claims that Trump is Putin’s “puppet.” Trump and Putin are supposedly cut from the same cloth. Therefore, the left promotes Putin’s deceptive self-presentation as a Christian nationalist. It is ridiculous, of course, that this former KGB officer who laments the fall of the Soviet Union, and who boasts that he never parted with his Communist Party card, should be a Christian nationalist.
The most telling confession, in respect of this, is a tweet by Fusion-GPS Russia expert, Edward Baumgartner. Diana presents Baumgartner’s response to a comment by Dennis Prager, who innocently tweeted, “The news media in the West pose a far greater danger to Western liberty than Russia does.” Baumgartner evidently knows that the news media and Russia are both in “the socialist camp,” and he also knows that the Trump/Russia collusion story is pure misdirection; for he replied to Prager in the following way: “You never lived in Russia & don’t speak [the] language. You think it is [a] white supremacist & Christian homeland. But it is wonderfully so far from. FU.”
Baumgartner is mocking Prager’s statement that Russia is not our greatest threat. What is most intriguing, is that Baumgartner thinks Russia is wonderful — presumably because it is a threat! Quite clearly, he is contemptuous of “Western liberty,” hates Christianity, and associates it with white supremacy. He is not worried about Trump/Russia collusion. He knows that Russia is actually helping to promote the left’s narrative. He likes Putin’s Russia; and he knows that the left, by promoting a false image of Putin as a nationalist, is helping to advance Russia’s deception strategy. Baumgartner, in fact, is laughing at Prager’s ignorance.
As Diana notes, Baumgartner has given us a tantalizing tidbit attended by malicious glee. It is, perhaps, the most important of all Diana’s red threads. It points to a conscious knowledge of deception on the part of an active “change agent.” Baumgartner revels in his intellectual superiority; for he knows and understands what Prager will never figure out.
What is the corrective for conservative naïveté in such matters? Diana quotes Russian dissident Vladimir Bukovsky: “When you make a serious break with the past, there is no need to conceal the past.” The Russians, even now, lie about their own history. They are digging up graves in Karelia, formerly acknowledged as victims of Stalin. The Kremlin claims these victims were prisoners of war massacred by the Finnish Army in World War II.
Why engage in this kind of deception if Russia is no longer communist? The proof of the Kremlin’s ongoing adherence to “the camp of socialism” is all around us. We only have to look — at the Russian troops in Venezuela, at Russian scientists in North Korea, at Russian base building in Nicaragua, etc., etc.
The joke is on us, again and again, but Baumgartner is not the only one laughing. Former FBI Director James Comey is also laughing, notes Diana. A self-confessed college “communist” who does not know how to label himself today, Comey also promotes a deceptive narrative. The same goes for former CIA Director John Brennan and William Browder and Christopher Steele and Nellie Ohr. Here are the subjects of Diana’s book. And all of them — all of them! — smell of “the socialist camp.”
It is alleged by many in the mainstream media that Moscow’s agents “interfered” in the election to Trump’s advantage. It is alleged that Trump won the election with clandestine Russian support.
Did he really?
We may judge the artfulness of this disinformation by the chain of antecedent lies that went before: That Russia is no longer part of “the socialist camp”; that Putin is a nationalist; that the American left is patriotic; that the left is opposed to Russian subversion; that the left will oppose Russia militarily; that the left supports strong borders and national defense. No, no, no — all lies! Brazen lies!
Did Russia interfere in the 2016 election? Not in the manner so famously advertised. First, Diana says, there is no proof of Russian interference. There is only a claim, from an untrustworthy source, which the FBI and Robert Mueller did not bother to investigate. If proof exists, we have not been shown its substance. We are told the proofs of Russian hacking (the DNC) are secret proofs, well-known to U.S. intelligence agencies who cannot say what they are without revealing “sources and methods.” But former experts in these “methods” (like William Binney) claim that the evidence points away from Russia, to an employee of the Democratic National Committee who downloaded the stolen DNC emails to a thumb drive.
The whole Trump/Russia collusion narrative has been questionable, from first to last. As Diana pointed out,
The relative position of the combatants was all wrong. The same media, the same Left, which ever since have cried ‘Russian influence’ in the election of Donald Trump, spent the previous century denying such influence existed — specifically denying the Russian/Communist threat within — and, further, destroying those who sought to expose and remove it.
The era of transition from capitalism to socialism is not over. The socialist side has always employed deceptions of every imaginable type. Today is no different. The Trump/Russia collusion story is only the latest iteration. It has tenaciously entrenched itself in the media and in government. It is fully weaponized and may be extended to accusations of treason aimed at conservatives in a more general sense. If you are a conservative, or moderately patriotic, you are mistaken if you think the Constitution will protect you. Why would it? If a majority of those sworn to uphold the Constitution belong to “the socialist camp,” they will freely disregard the Constitution, as they have already disregarded other laws. Or haven’t you been paying attention? They can come for you. In fact, they are planning on it; for there has already been a witch hunt. Lives and careers have already been destroyed. The hysteria against nationalists and Christians as “Putin collaborators” has already been seeded in the public mind. And Moscow will be adding fuel to the fire.
This cannot be emphasized enough: “The socialist camp” did not disappear in 1991. It’s tentacles have been extended to every branch of the U.S. Federal Government. The socialists have colonized the FBI and CIA. They have corrupted the Justice Department. And they want the White House back — with no more patriotic interlopers (like Trump).
We live in the era of “the transition from capitalism to socialism.” When are we going to learn that the socialists are working to replace Western civilization with a socialist “civilization”? When are we going to realize their goal is to eliminate the Constitution, the free market, freedom of speech, even America itself? When are we going to learn that they are still in cahoots with Moscow?
Diana West has not been fooled, though nearly everyone else has misread the clues. Buy her book and read it. Don’t be duped by the narrative of the mainstream media. Trouble is coming. To be forewarned is to be forearmed.

Jeff, I have been reading your book, Origins of the 4th World War. Something has come up in regards when you mention in the book that the Russians are going get Canada and Alaska and Communist Chinese will get the lower 48 US states. I somewhat believe after the invasion. Overseas Chinese will not fare pretty well under the Communist Chinese and Russians and will in fact join in being killed which is very unfortunate.
Last time I was in Hong Kong, I noticed the Hong Kong Chinese took a very strong dislike with overseas Chinese. This has also been seen in the Hong Kong Independence Movement as well, the leaders of the Hong Kong Independence Movement claim they want to be seperate from Mainland China, but in fact not only do the Hong Kong Independence Movement leaders work for the Chinese Ministry of State Security. They have exhibited or shown patriotism/loyalty to Mainland China. In a conversation I had with my cousin who lives in Hong Kong, I was told that Hong Kong Media and Mainland China State Media do portray overseas Chinese as undesirables.
I somewhat believe if the Communist Russians get Alaska and Canada, the Communist Chinese get the lower 48 US states. Overseas Chinese will suffer the same fate as the Americans and Canadians post invasion. I am pretty sure the Communist Chinese and Russians do see Overseas Chinese as undesirables as well
Thank you for commenting, Alex. In the text of a secret speech by Chinese Defense Minister Chi Haotian almost twenty years ago, the fate of the overseas Chinese was discussed. General Chi made the following observations, which are worth quoting in full:
“In Chinese history, in the replacement of dynasties, the ruthless have always won and the benevolent have always failed. The most typical example involved Xiang Yu the king of Chu, who, after defeating Liu Bang, failed to continue to chase after him and eliminate his forces, and this leniency resulted in Xiang Yu’s death and Lui’s victory (during the war between Chu and Han, just after the Qin Dynasty, 221-226 BC, was overthrown). Therefore, we must emphasize the importance of adopting resolute measures. In the future, the two rivals, China and the United States, will eventually meet each other in a narrow road, and our leniency to the Americans will mean cruelty toward the Chinese people. Here some people may want to ask me: what about the several millions of our compatriots in the United States? They may ask: aren’t we against Chinese killing Chinese?
“These comrades are too pedantic; they are not pragmatic enough. If we had insisted on the principle that Chinese should not kill other Chinese, would we have liberated China? As for the several million Chinese living in the United States, this is of course a big issue. Therefore in recent years, we have been conducting research on genetic weapons, i.e., those weapons that do not kill yellow people. But producing a result with this kind of research is extremely difficult. Of the research done on genetic weapons throughout the world, the Israeli’s is the most advanced. Their genetic weapons are designed to target Arabs and protect the Israelis. But even they have not reached the stage of actual deployment. We have cooperated with Israel on some research. Therefore we have to give up our expectations about genetic weapons. Of course, from another perspective, the majority of those Chinese living in the United States have become our burden, because they have been corrupted by the bourgeois liberal values for a long time and it would be difficult for them to accept our Party’s leadership. If they survived the war, we would have to launch campaigns in the future to deal with them, to reform them. Do you still remember that when we had just defeated the Koumintang (KMT) and liberated mainland China, so many people from the bourgeois class and intellectuals welcomed us so very warmly, but later we had to launch campaigns such as the ‘suppression of the reactionaries’ and ‘Anti-Rightist Movement’ to clean them up and reform them? Maybe we can put it this way: death is the engine that moves history forward. During the period of the three kingdoms, how many people died? When Genghis Khan conquered Eurasia, how many people died? When Manchu invaded the interior of China, how many people died? Not many people died during the 1911 Revolution, but when we overthrew the Three Great Mountains, and during the political campaigns such as ‘Suppression of reactionaries,’ ‘three-Anti-Campaign,’ and “five-Anti-Campaign’ at least 20 million people died. We were apprehensive that some young people today would be trembling with fear when they hear about wars and people dying. During wartime, we were used to seeing dead people. Blood and flesh were flying everywhere, corpses were lying in heaps on the fields, and blood ran like rivers. We saw it all. On the battlefields, everybody’s eyes turned red with killing because it was a life-and-death struggle and only the brave would survive.
“It is indeed brutal to kill one or two hundred million Americans. But that is the only path that will secure a Chinese century, a century in which the CCP leads the world. We, as revolutionary humanitarians, do not want deaths. But if history confronts us with a choice between deaths of Chinese and those of Americans, we’d have to pick to latter, as, for us, it is more important to safeguard the lives of the Chinese people and the life of our Party. That is because, after all, we are Chinese and members of the CCP. Since the day we joined the CCP, the Party’s life has always been above all else! History will prove that we made the right choice.”
It’s the best time to make some plans for the future and it’s time to be happy.

Interesting questions from pt1984. I will try and answer, briefly. The KGB and Communist Bloc have yet to win their final victory. They have played a number of interesting cards. They have deceived many intelligence agencies and governments. They have infiltrated and subverted the United States to an alarming degree. Yet, there are inherent weaknesses in Russia and China which have prevented them from taking full advantage of their successes. That’s the only reason the United States still exists. Nothing here is owing to our virtue.
President Trump’s has not swept the subversives out of the Justice Department or the CIA or the Pentagon. He doesn’t seem to be knowledgeable. (How can you fight something if you do not understand it?) Trump probably does understand that his domestic opponents are leftists (or even communists), but without grasping the interrelationships between the fifth column in Washington and the policies of Moscow and Beijing, it is unlikely he will prevail in any permanent sense. Furthermore, when his term of office inevitably ends we are right back where we left off in 2016. A Democrat will come in, or a clueless Republican. The usual suspects will continue the work of dismantling our defenses.
The last question is about the Sino-Soviet split and why we should trust the Russian-Ukrainian split. Naturally, we should not trust in such things. My own analysis of Ukraine goes something like this: As Boris Chikulay pointed out in his paper on the KGB’s control of Ukrainian institutions before 2014, the country has been governed by Soviet structures since 1991. Whatever freedom the Ukrainian people won after the fall of the USSR was nominal. After repeated attempts to throw off the ruling Leninist mafia, we arrive at the events of 2014. This sparked a real crisis for Moscow, because the “Soviet” mafia’s grip on Ukraine has loosened. The people of Ukraine, particularly in the West of the country, no longer accept the legitimacy of the country’s residual “Soviet” institutions, and many brave Ukrainians were willing to use force in the cause of reform. The annexation of Crimea and the war in eastern Ukraine were prophylactic measures by the Kremlin, since the situation was moving against the Soviet structures that controlled the Ukrainian economy, the media, the banks, and the government. The Kremlin was faced with a difficult choice once Yanukovich fled to Russia. Moscow’s agents and structures in Ukraine continued to mediate everything, as before, but public pressure and the threat of violence from Ukrainian patriots, neutralized the full effectiveness of these structures. Given the spirit of independence which prevailed, and given the reduced effectiveness of the Soviet structures, one of Moscow’s plans, which is visible throughout, hints that a new “perestroika” is coming, either before Putin leaves office or immediately after. This is probably a solid strategy for Moscow. Work so that Zelensky fails. Demoralize the Ukrainian people by frustrating the country’s economic development. Prove to the people of Ukrainian that all their leaders are weak and corrupt. The KGB has powerful resources for this sort of thing, but the Ukrainian patriots have also grown in sophistication. Is Zelensky honest? He looks honest. But only time will tell.

Those Nations Against The United States. She puts herself up as one who is dubious about her future, but her purpose and objective is anything but. In her emotion she displays a sinister anger directed at anyone not in her Climate Comrade league. She is both one being used, but at the same time obviously shows her intent to become a leader amongst those out to crush opposition to her goals, her agenda. A female aspirational Little Adolf, she will seek power to someday seize if she can, amongst others of her cohorts. And when she does she will seek to wreak vengeance against the disbelievers—-it was right in her eyes during her speech! Is there somewhere an Oswald who can intercept her?
I hope so, but with minimal optimism.
